Computer Backup
41 TopicsHow to undo an accidental backup to Dropbox?
A couple of months ago I must have accidently hit a key where it seems my complete computer is backed up to dropbox. I'm on a Mac and my "Documents" folder now has a Dropbox icon and it seems each file is no longer located on my mac but on Dropbox. So I depend on internet speed for access to the files. I have solved part of the problem by making all my folder "available offline" which, I assume, restores my Mac the way it was before. But I would like to permanently disable this automatic backup and have my documents folder looking the same way it was before all this happened.866Views0likes5CommentsI can't delete my backup files to free up space; the backup folder isn't visible.
I currently have a Dropbox account with the free basic plan. For a few days I have been receiving notifications because the storage space has run out. In truth my uploads are only 250Mb in size. I remember that last week, by mistake, I started the backup of a GARMIN device which failed. However, the files loaded during this backup have filled the available space. Now I would like to delete all those GARMIN files but I cannot select and delete them because the folder is not visible and selectable. The only way to see those files is in the "recent" view. Please can someone help me?Solved1.1KViews0likes4CommentsCan't delete my Dropbox Backup
Hi, I have a Backup set up for a PC that no longer exists. I cannot delete the backup. The help says to login, goto settings-security tab, select the device to log it out, so the backup can be deleted. The device does not exist in my list. The instructions make sense but there appears to be something wrong. If there is nothing wrong with what I am doing how do you contact support to get it fixed? Cheers, GarrySolved3KViews0likes16CommentsMy Desktop folder has been removed from my Mac, after losing access to my work Dropbox account.
Hi, So this is what has happened. I had access to Dropbox via my work account on my laptop (Macbook). Yesterday that access was taken away as I had resigned and so naturally I no longer had access. After that, all of my desktop folder is gone. I can't find it in hidden files or anything. How can I recover this? All of my personal documents, certificates, and everything were stored in it. I really need access to the 'Desktop' folder. I don't understand how they got linked as I have downloads still but specifically this one is gone. Now a shortcut is created on the desktop saying 'my files in Dropbox' which opens to 'the operation can't be completed because the original item for My Files in Dropbox can't be found. Please help me. I'm in urgent need468Views0likes5CommentsHow can I cancel my computer backup?
I apparently selected pc backup when I installed Dropbox and naturally I'm out of storage on my Dropbox account now. I don't want and have no need to have my pc backed up to it. I have the desktop app but am not able to find the preferences section to stop it from backing up. I did try just deleting My PC from Dropbox but a message comes up and says if I delete "My PC" it says it will be removed from my Dropbox and from the computer. If I delete it in Dropbox, does that mean I'll lose everything on my laptop too? Sorry if it sounds like a newbie question but I am. 🙂 Any help stopping the PC backup would be greatly appreciated.Solved25KViews2likes58CommentsHow do I delete Backups in Dropbox?
Hello, I've been trying to find out what is taking space in my Dropbox. When I go to Manage account it says I have 11.8 GBs of Backups out of 15 GB. However I cannot actually find out what backup this is nor delete it. All the steps I've checked on the site talks about installing a Desktop App then going to Sync and Backup. However there's no such thing. I'm using the latest Dropbox app downloaded from Dropbox website and running on Windows 11. Also if I go to Dropbox app in the taskbar and then click on my account name then go to Preferences there's an option for the tab called Backups. However this tab opens up just the folders however I've not selected any folders to be backed up. There's no way to actually delete backups. I've tried unlinking all devices from my account, deleting all files in the directories and still there's this 11GB just missing. Why can't Dropbox app just show what is taking the space and have an option to delete it?Solved7.8KViews4likes17CommentsI can't delete backup files because I can't sign out of a device that I unlinked.
Hi, I made a mistake in unlinking a device that had a backup on my Dropbox before I had signed out of it. This seems to mean that I cannot delete anything from that backup file in Dropbox - even though I can view most files. My Dropbox is full, and I would like to clean out a lot of things from that backup of an old computer that I no longer have access to. How can I do it?2.1KViews0likes12CommentsTurning on dropbox backup but folder name is weird
I had tested the Dropbox Backup feature in the past so I know that when turned on my Computers should be added as My Mac (Unique Mac Name). I decided to turn it back on again when setting up two new Macs that I have but the backup now creates the folders as just Mac, Mac (2), Mac (3) I've gone through the steps of unlinking Dropbox from each computer. Checking their names in System Preferences and also in the Security tab of my Dropbox account. The computer names are correct in Dropbox but the backup feature is still creating the folders as just MacSolved15KViews10likes56CommentsHow to delete a backup?
Hi, I recently logged on and found that my Dropbox folder was full (2GB). On investigation this was because an old laptop was being backed up. I removed it using the desktop app preferences yesterday, but the files have still not been deleted. It does not appear in the list of linked devices on my account either. How on earth do I delete the files and make Dropbox usable again?Solved1.8KViews1like5CommentsLost all files on my Desktop folder on Mac during installing Dropbox!
Help! I lost all files on my desktop folder on Mac during installing Dropbox. The files on the desktop suddenly disappeared so I stopped the installing. I try to restart the computer. But my Mac setting was restored and all my files on desktop are gone. But files in shared folder are still there. I searched the community forum and found that it might be about 'computer backup'. But my dropbox account is not big enough to backup over 200gb files. Anything I can do to fix it? Thanks in advance.1.2KViews0likes8Comments
