How to undo an accidental backup to Dropbox?
A couple of months ago I must have accidently hit a key where it seems my complete computer is backed up to dropbox. I'm on a Mac and my "Documents" folder now has a Dropbox icon and it seems each file is no longer located on my mac but on Dropbox. So I depend on internet speed for access to the files. I have solved part of the problem by making all my folder "available offline" which, I assume, restores my Mac the way it was before. But I would like to permanently disable this automatic backup and have my documents folder looking the same way it was before all this happened.
My Desktop folder has been removed from my Mac, after losing access to my work Dropbox account.
Hi, So this is what has happened. I had access to Dropbox via my work account on my laptop (Macbook). Yesterday that access was taken away as I had resigned and so naturally I no longer had access. After that, all of my desktop folder is gone. I can't find it in hidden files or anything. How can I recover this? All of my personal documents, certificates, and everything were stored in it. I really need access to the 'Desktop' folder. I don't understand how they got linked as I have downloads still but specifically this one is gone. Now a shortcut is created on the desktop saying 'my files in Dropbox' which opens to 'the operation can't be completed because the original item for My Files in Dropbox can't be found. Please help me. I'm in urgent need
I can't delete backup files because I can't sign out of a device that I unlinked.
Hi, I made a mistake in unlinking a device that had a backup on my Dropbox before I had signed out of it. This seems to mean that I cannot delete anything from that backup file in Dropbox - even though I can view most files. My Dropbox is full, and I would like to clean out a lot of things from that backup of an old computer that I no longer have access to. How can I do it?
Turning on dropbox backup but folder name is weird
I had tested the Dropbox Backup feature in the past so I know that when turned on my Computers should be added as My Mac (Unique Mac Name). I decided to turn it back on again when setting up two new Macs that I have but the backup now creates the folders as just Mac, Mac (2), Mac (3) I've gone through the steps of unlinking Dropbox from each computer. Checking their names in System Preferences and also in the Security tab of my Dropbox account. The computer names are correct in Dropbox but the backup feature is still creating the folders as just Mac
