Version of file just aged like 2 weeks instantly.
I have a file I work on every day and often save it multiple times a day. I had it on my laptop this morning, saved and closed it, so I could work on my desktop at home with it. And all of a sudden t...

2 years agoHas Dropbox sync'd and updated other files in that time? You can see at www.dropbox.com/events
Was the file in use closed at all? And given time to upload and sync?

Last reference to file is 16 days ago. Other events have happened since then according to the system. I saved the file and another on my laptop at around 4 pm EST. The other file is still there but the current version of one that 'aged' is gone. No reference in Events after March 20th. And I save it multiple times per day on most working days. The only thing I can think of is that I may have saved it as *v12 instead of *v11 on March 20th and that *v12 just completely disappeared. If that were the case *v12 deletion should have created an Event, not?

Are you saving as different names? i.e. v11, v12 etc.?
If you didnt save as v12 there wont be a deletion event for that - it would just show v11. Have you looked at version history of v11?

v11 history stops on March 21st. That's why I think I might have switched to v12, that would at least explain that. Another thing occurred to me, if I just save the file locally on my laptop but never close it on my laptop, does it even sync with Dropbox? If not, that would explain why there is no history of v12. Only thing that still remains inexplicable, what happened to v12 when I saved it on my laptop, closed the file and it disappeared...

Hi Dutch_Orange, welcome to our Community, and sorry to hear about that!
I'm assuming the file was saved inside your Dropbox folder, while you were working on it, is that correct?
Do you happen to recall what file type it was?
I'm afraid that if you don't see it in your Events page, this most likely means that it never synced to Dropbox. Or, for some reason the changes synced from the web to your local Dropbox folder, causing the older file to appear there.
Even if you renamed it, that would have shown as a new event. Is it possible that the file is inside your account, under a totally different name?
Let me know more!

Hi Megan,
Yes, file was saved inside Dropbox folder, I don't keep it anywhere else. And I save it multiple times a day sometimes. I am not sure if I renamed it.
So, you're saying it could have synced with an older online version to local. Would the Dropbox people be able to tell me more? I put in a ticket.
The file is an Excel file.
Another name is not possible, I think. I pick the option "Save" and always check to see if Excel states back on top "Saved to this PC".
