Solved

My version history is missing.

Device
Dell Desktop
Operating System/Browser (if using the web)
Windows 11
Dropbox App Version (if using the app)
Current

I justed edited a jpg and want to restore an earlier version. Before today, I last edited the file 4 days ago, but Version History only shows the current version. Why can't I restore my file?

If the file was deleted the linked event with it is also removed, so, that would explain that :)

    Pleased you found it!

The only way is via that link I'm afraid. Dropbox have really unhelpfully removed it from the menu optuons.

Hey michaelytt - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

If you made sure that you're looking at the correct file and tried this on another browser as well, can you have a look at your events page and let me know if you're able to restore from there?

    Thanks!

    Walter,

I am definitely looking at the correct file. I tried another browser, and I went to the events page from No.17, and I can't restore it from there either.

Thanks for your suggestions, but no luck. I really need the original version of this file. It has been sitting in my DropBox account for 10 years!

How long ago did you edit the version before this one?

Dropox doesnt keep version history longer than 30 days (or 180 if paid).

So, if for example you edit a file in Jan, then today edited it again (in Nov) and then wanted to restore to the Jan version you couldnt as it is over 180 days old. I know that sound totally illogical and bonkers but thats how it works. It also didnt USED to work this way, but, has done for a few years now.

    Mark,

It was previously edited on Nov 17, 6 days ago. I just found a grouping of deleted files from that day from the same folder. In that group was the file I was looking for. I restored it. However, it was the same edited version from Nov 21. However, when I clicked on it, this time some version history appeared and I was able to restore the file from a Nov. 16 version!! Hooray! But very weird, that first there was no version history, and then there was some version history.

How do I access events from my Drop Box account? I only seem to be able to access that from the link in your post.
