We have a new Dropbox team, but there's an old team folder preventing changes

We have recently upgraded our Drop Box account so that we have 3 users. We need to be able to move the files & folders that are currently stored in some of these 3 individual accounts - to the new team folder.

One of the users has an old team folder, that has one folder and file in it, but he is struggling to move this to his personal account, which will then allow him to leave this old team, and join the new team we have just created. Are you able to provide a procedure of how we should get this fixed, any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Welcome to the community MilkBar, let's try to unravel this situation.

Our first step will be to have the affected user (who has the folder/file you want to move) confirm their account type and ownership. They'll do that by:

    1. Signing in to dropbox.com/account.
    2. Click the tab that says 'Plan', and check:
      • Does it say Dropbox Business (old team name)?
      • Or Dropbox Basic/Plus/Personal?

If it still says Dropbox Business, they are still a member of the old team.

To check access to the old team folder, head over to dropbox.com/homethen navigate to the folder you want to move.

If it has a briefcase/team folder icon, it’s a team-managed folder (ownership is by the old team, not the user). In that case, they cannot move or transfer that folder directly to a personal space. A team admin from the old team must either transfer ownership of the file or share the folder to the user's personal account.

I realize this might be a lot of info, but try to investigate access to the folder in question and give us an update!
