Adding Microsoft Office Online to Connected Apps

How do I add Microsoft Office Online to my connected apps to dropbox so that I can open dropbox files with Microsoft Office Online? Do I need a business account do access this feature?

  • Make sure that the documents you're trying to open in Word online are in .docx format. The older .doc format is not supported by Microsoft's Online apps. The same holds true for Excel and PowerPoint.

This is available to all accounts. Here are some quick steps:

    • Go ahead and make sure you are logged into your Office 365 account.
    • Go to dropbox.com and click to open a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document.
    • In the top-right, click Open With, and then click the appropriate Office app.

    • You will then be prompted to Allow the connection.

You are now connect. You can then go into Settings > Connected apps to verify.

    Hello Gregoc,

Thank you for replying! The problem is that no Microsoft Office Online apps appear as options when I click "Open with" even when I am logged into my Dropbox account and Office 365 Account. My options are:

    Send for signature

    Adobe Sign

    DocuSign

    Hello Sign

    Send Fax

    HelloFax

    Download

    Download

    Nowhere does it say

    Edit

Microsoft Word Online (or other app)

What happens when you click “Microsoft Word Online” under Edit?

When I click "Open with" for a Word doc in dropbox, there is no "Edit" section and no “Microsoft Word Online” option.

However, I just discovered that I can go to an Excel file in dropbox and "Open with" "Microsoft Excel Online"!

I guess I misunderstood the list you sent, that is why I asked my previous question.

Now that Excel is working, do you have that option with Word?

No, that's the strange thing. I don't have that option with Word even now that Excel is working.

Have you tried different Word docs to make sure it isn’t that one doc?

I have not, but was wondering the same thing. I'll try that next, thanks!

THANK YOU!! The Word documents I was trying to open were in .doc format and now that they are in .docx format, I can open them via dropbox in Microsoft Word Online. I am so releived. Thank you to both Rich and gregoc!
