Can I share a folder with multiple users without it taking up space on their accounts?

I have a Basic account, but want to upgrade to something that will allow my small research team, based at an NGO, to save their data and articles. Our project cannot afford the multi-user options. A colleague at a research institution told me that he has the DB Plus option with 2TB space, and it allows him to share a folder with his team, without the contents in the folder counting towards their basic accounts. I cannot find any information on this on DB website. I will appreciate some help...

That's not accurate. If you share a folder with someone it WILL take up space in their account.

If the other people don't need edit access, you can use a view-only shared link and they'll be able to access the files without impacting their own account.
