My Dropbox stopped syncing on June 20 and I contacted you on June 23 for help. June 30 is the last time I've heard from anyone on your team—NO attempt has been made to help me troubleshoot, and my laptop is completely unusable without the ability to sync files with my desktop and my colleagues. I am desperate and don't know how else to get help, so I'm trying here. I tried to troubleshoot on my own by opting out of File Provider, and then it made a second copy of my Dropbox folder in a new location on my Macbook, and filled up my hard drive. Now I can't sync anything, and I have "selective sync conflicts" all over the place. Hard drive is full. Laptop is unusable for my work. For me this is an emergency. I'm trying to understand this. I'm helping a friend with a project and she shared a few folders with me. Other than the files she shared with me, I had hardly anything else in my Dropbox. I deleted everything else except for her shared files. It seems like her files also count against my 2GB limit. Is this correct? What happens when her folders are larger than 2GB - will I still be able to access them with my free account? I don't want to have to have a paid account when my files are no longer in Dropbox. Can anyone help me with this? Or at least tell me what happens if her files grow larger than 2GB - for me? I shouldn't have to pay to access files that she has already paid to save to her account, I wouldn't think. Thanks for any help - appreciate it.36Views0likes2CommentsMy Dropbox folder takes up 1 TB of hard drive space when I only have 210 GB in my account
I have a 2T plan on my Mac the dropbox folder is taking up 1.02 T. on line when I look at my account it says: Regular files (208.31 GB) Shared files (1.08 GB) Unused space (1.8 TB) I have 3.2 gig available on the Mac and Drop box is saying it can't sync. Why is dropbox taking up 1 T when there is only 210 gig on line.Solved9.9KViews1like26CommentsSet up new computer and now I have tons of "selective sync conflict" folders and my account is full
Hi all... I just migrated to a new computer. I thought Dropbox would know what to do, but now there are tons of "selective sync conflict" folders and my dropbox is suddenly full?! Now that this is happening, how to get out of this situation without it becoming a horrible mess (if it isn't already?). I really wish Dropbox would have some kind of protocol / warning that goes into effect when it notices it's installed on a new computer, this is nuts! Very appreciative of any help!!116Views1like7Comments"Your Dropbox is full" error when uploading files to a shared folder
Hi. I met someone at a concert and recorded a video of him interacting with the singer, and would like to send the video file to him. He gave me a Dropbox link to upload the video, but when doing so using the Dropbox Android app, I get a notification of "Upload stopped. Your Dropbox is full." Is this referring to MINE or HIS Dropbox being full? I have a free Dropbox Basic account with 2GB of storage. The video file is 2.33GB. I read that uploading files to someone else's Dropbox uses my own, I think, but I don't know if that applies in this situation. Thanks!43Views0likes1CommentUploading a large file directly to the cloud and checking the status
I have a large, 165 GB file that my local computer can in no way accept into its Dropbox folder and then select online only. I have read that I can go Dropbox on my browser and upload a file directly to my account on the https://www.dropbox.com/home page. The first issue I see is that I can't select a folder to put it in. My worry is that the file is then going to try and sync with my local computer. The second issue is that I am not seeing any status bar to show that the sync has begun, or when it will be finished. How can I transfer this large file on an external drive directly to the cloud version of Dropbox?131Views0likes8CommentsHow do I upload directly to someone else's folder?
I'm doing some work for a company and would like to upload large files directly to their Dropbox folder. However, I have a free account, and the research I've done makes it sound like I can't join the folder because I don't have enough storage. Do I really have to purchase a subscription just to upload files to someone else's folder? There must be something I'm missing, right?Solved70Views0likes10CommentsAllow better control of files shared to you
Files shared to me take up space in my Dropbox. I cannot delete individual files, just unsubscribe from the folder. My Dropbox is now completely full of files shared to me. I do not want to unsubscribe from the folder, just delete some shared files to make space. Alternatively, it has been suggested that the sender share files to me with a view only designation. This is unworkable as the recipient has no control over what the sender does. So if view only is the solution, then the recipient needs to be able to designation folders as view only, not just the sender.46Views0likes2CommentsDropbox is filling my Mac's hard drive with clone files.
Hi! I have a 1tb hard drive, and just added 600gb of files to a local folder that dropbox is set to sync to. Since then, Dropbox has created an extra 500gb worth of "clone files" in a root mount, group containers folder. My hard drive is now completely full and I'm unable to back up my original files. Are these dropbox clone files just temporary? Can I only back up files to the cloud if I have more than twice the amount of local drive space available?170Views1like9CommentsStop selective sync from auto syncing newly added files by default
Hi all - I am the creative director at a small creative studio and Dropbox's selective sync feature is a great way for our team to have the seamless experience of working with our files locally, whether they are in-studio or remote. However, there is a catch to this feature that stops it from being as efficient as advertised. Our file structure is very standard - Year / Client / Project. Team members will use selective sync to only sync the projects they are actively working on so that they do not blow up their local hard drives with 3-4TB of data. However, whenever someone adds a new folder anywhere along the directory chain, that new folder is auto-synced to everyone's desktop, by default. So even though a team member may only want select project files that are relevant to them, they are forced into any new files that others on the team are added since they last set their syncing preferences. Unless I'm missing something there is no current setting to change this, making local file management super messy. Each team member has to constantly go into preferences to deselect projects they don't want. TL;DR - Selective sync auto sync new folders and files, team-wide resulting in messy local file management. My question is: If this is truly selective sync, why is this the default functionally? Shouldn't there at least be a way to switch it off in preferences? Or am I missing something?Solved714Views0likes2Comments
