Storage space
155 TopicsQuestions about shared folders, storage space and permissions
Hi all, After cleaning up all the mess in my Dropbox account I would like you to comment on two questions I have: As an example. .I have a folder A, and a lot of subfolders within that folder, called 1, 2, 3 etc. In the subfolder A1 there are a few subfolders, called, A1a, A1b etc. I want to share the subfolders A1a, A1b etc. The person I want to share folders with has a free Dropbox account (2 GB). I give them permission for A1a. So the person opens Dropbox goes into my account until the level of A1, finds the subfolder A1a, opens that and does what this person wants to do. As long as the folder A1a is smaller than 2GB that's okay for this person to do. After editing files within A1a, the folder may be closed and removed from the free Dropbox account. In this way this person has always 2GB available. One or more shared folders may not exceed 2GB. Is this a way to use Dropbox and shared folders? A shared folder can be opened by another person as long as necessary until I remove the permission, right? Thanks in advance and with kindest regards, Leo.Solved137Views0likes2CommentsHow can I access a shared folder without needing to upgrade?

hi guys, i just bought dropbox for it to automatically backup a folder of my work while always syncing the newest versions and changes that i make for it now i figured that if i want it to sync, it will take about as double as storage on my mac (which is really weird and annoying for me but ok), and now i want this sync option to stop but now im stuck. i uploaded a 750 gb folder (my work folder) to dropbox folder on my mac, while i have only 150 gb available on my mac. this is where the synced stopped in the middle of it writing there is an issue, and after a quick search i figured its because i need free storage space as the folder i synced. now, when i try to move this folder out of the dropbox folder and back to my mac, i write could not connect to dropbox, the dropbox AI help doesn't help me, can anyone have the answer? My shared account, one of musicans that I share a folder with is using windows, and he keeps having issues. The error message he was receiving is “You are out of memory”, I have asked him to delete. his old free DropBox account, which he said he did. I know it’s not my account, because I have 2 TB, and not even close to using a 10th of it. He told me the message he gets from DB is he needs to establish an account using a email address?? I have invited him, with edit and view rights, and even sent a link. He thinks because he briefly paid for an account 30 years ago, the his windows laptop is hard coded. How can he strip any reference to his old DropBox off his windows laptop, and what if he tried a new password. Another weird thing is, when I look at his name it has a red disabled next to his name75Views0likes2CommentsHow can I upload files to a paid account without upgrading myself?
My family member and I are trying to share a Dropbox folder for caregiving. The family member has a paid account, and I have a free account. Is there no way for me to upload files to our shared folders without upgrading my account to paid? Anytime I try to upload a file, I get an error message telling me that have surpassed my 2 GB storage limit with my free account.67Views0likes1CommentFiles aren't set online-only automatically when copying files from an external NAS to my Mac.
Device MacBook Pro Operating System/Browser (if using the web) OS26.2 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 240.4.8493 Syncing Status Syncing, but it shouldn't? Question or Issue Default syncing preference is set to online-only, because I want to save the files off of my MacBook, to save space. But everything I copy files from a external NAS to the Dropbox, it takes up space on my MacBook, hundreds of GB's... If this setting is offered, and turned to online-only (it literally says: You set this to online-only so new files will not take up space on your harddrive) then why is is still using all the space on my MacBook?140Views0likes5CommentsI've deleted content from my Dropbox account, but I still can't share/sync new files.
Basic Dropbox Plan I can’t sync my files on any device, neither mine nor those of my collaborators. I had run out of storage 5 months ago, and I deleted things. Now I have more than 1GB of free space, but nothing is syncing yet and nothing seems to be able to force the syncing. I don’t want to upgrade my plan; since I’ve freed up space, I want it to work exactly as before. It hasn’t been updating for four months. How can I solve?235Views0likes9CommentsI'm still getting emails to upgrade my plan because a shared folder is using all my storage.
Why I'm still getting emails to upgrade my plan because out of space. I got only 350 MB of files and I'm added to a shared clients folder with 400+ Gb which I don't own. Why should I upgrade my plan to have the files which are not in my dropbox?!104Views0likes2Comments
