Storage space
1682 TopicsMy Dropbox app keeps indexing files and I'm running out of hard drive space
I was running out of room on my MacBook Air (2 TB, Sonoma 14.7.8) and was told to make all Dropbox folders Online only to free up storage. It started indexing and freed up almost 1 TB so I was happy for a few minutes. Then it kept indexing and a few days later I was out of memory again. This has been going on for 6 weeks! ChaptGPT calls this a "rehydration" DropbBox Death loop. Chat said to mark the whole DropBox master folder as Online Only, then stop and restart DropbBox ap. Did not solve the problem. Possible clue: My main computer (MacBook Pro (4 TB, Sonoma 14.6.1) is doing fine except the Finder now shows that there is a 20 GB "Conflicted" copy of my DropBox files. Can anyone help me?71Views0likes4CommentsCan't upload to another user's folder shared with me
Another user shared their folder with me to allow me to upload some work product I had done for them. I only have the basic free dropbox they have 3TB and they are no where near full. I can't upload any of the work product becuase dropbox says I am full. I have nothing in my drop box (ZERO!) but all of the other users work product counts against my quota. This seems like a heavy handed way to force people to pay for a subscription they don't use. Other clients Onedrive & Google Drive share options work without this arm twisting to forcing me to buy a subscription to contribute to their shared folders (folders that don't even belong to me).Solved1.9KViews0likes3CommentsDropbox says "not enough space" even though I have only 1 file in my account.
Hello, I cannot understand why dropbox says "not enough space" even though I have 2 GB and only 1 file with 35kb is saved. This is the first time since many years that this happens. 😕 Thank you for your assistance! Regards, Andi9.1KViews0likes23CommentsWhy do shared files count against my space usage?
Why are files shared with me counted against my space usage? Is this data counted twice? If someone who is sharing files with me is paying for this space, why should I have to pay as well just to access it? I am out of space, I have no intention of buying more space, and yet, when someone shares some files with me, I cannot access them and I am forced to buy space in order to access them. Why is this? Thank you.Solved30KViews4likes144CommentsDropbox full because of shared folder, how can I avoid them taking space?

I've been reading through some community posts, and a few people have said similar to the following: They have a free account, have storage of over 20GB, but Dropbox has messaged them to say the space will be reduced back to 2GB. Why is this? I don't want to go to the trouble of referring people to get more space, then have Dropbox message me and tell me the space will be removed. Does space get reduced if you don't use it after a certain amount of time or something?Solved16KViews1like31CommentsSelective sync is misleading and has led to my company not using Dropbox properly 😠
My company's Dropbox is quite large and obviously it would be undesirable to sync its entire contents locally. Yet during Dropbox login, you are told that your hard-drive does not have enough space, leading you to think that you should use selective sync to minimize what folders get synced. Moreover, this same idea is implied on the description for the Selective Sync option itself: The option implies that if you sync files to your hard-drive, they will use hard-drive space. Yet, all of this is false. Dropbox syncs files as online-only. They only download locally when opened or if the folder option is set to "Make available offline". Consequently, numerous people at my company have not been syncing folders. They've been using Dropbox through the browser, which is tedious and has encouraged them to keep work files locally or elsewhere in order to avoid the aforementioned tedium. Who knows how many hours this has wasted across the company over the past couple of years. This might some of the worst UI design I've ever encountered. Dropbox is sabotaging the way in which users want to use their product. I'm a long-time Dropbox user. I stuck with the product out of loyalty. If I had wanted a cloud drive in 2025 and ran into this, I would not used Dropbox. TLDR: Please stop telling users that their hard-drive space will get consumed when they log in. Please change the Selective Sync description to not imply that hard-drive space will get consumed on synced folders.13Views0likes1Comment"Your Dropbox is full" but what is taking up my storage space?
On Mac air with newest OS. I uninstalled the app, checked the hard drive, restarted the computer, barked at the moon, clapped twice and prayed to allah. The problem remains. I refuse to pay to upgrade. I cannot sync additional files.Solved121KViews10likes51Comments100 GB promotion HP + Dropbox hasn't been applied
