Having problems syncing with File Provider on Mac OS
Ok this thing just never seems to work anymore. I've updated to the new File Provider system, hoping to alleviate some of the pain of using Dropbox on MacOS (I use Ableton a lot and supposedly synced...

2 years agoHey -caffeinated- - sorry to jump in here, but could you send us a screenshot of how those two files look on your end?
Also, is the app 'up to date' now or still syncing?

Hi there,
Of course! Screenshot below. Since the timestamp in the screenshot the app has considered itself up to date, even after restarting.
Thanks

This seems like a temp file created by a third party app, namely Ableton in this case - are you able to preview it normally on your computer -caffeinated- ?

Hi,
Yes, the .asd file is an analysis file (created by Ableton) but this has uploaded/synced just fine. My problem is that the .wav file (also created by Ableton in the same export) does not upload/sync.
Thanks,

So you're not seeing it on the website if you navigate the file's path -caffeinated- ?
If you rename the file, does it improve the matters at all perhaps? What options are you getting when you right click on the file?
- -caffeinated-2 years agoHelpful | Level 5
Hi Walter,
I'm afraid I'm seeing the same on dropbox.com as well as the iOS app: the smaller analysis file synced while the larger WAV file did not. Right-clicking offers none of the expected dropbox options.
Renaming the file actually does cause it to sync, but this isn't a long-term solution.
Thanks

Hi from me as well, -caffeinated-! So, to clarify, is this only happening with files that are generated by Ableton?
I’d also like you to right click on your local Dropbox folder, go to "Get info", and send me a screenshot of the next window you’ll get. I just want to make sure the app isn't syncing more than 300k files in general, which can cause performance issues from time to time.

Hi Nancy,
That's right- WAVs exported by Ableton don't seem to sync (I have replicated this) whereas the smaller .asd files do sync. Likewise, dragging in other file types (e.g. PDFs) also sync. I have approx 200k files in DB:

Hi,
seems like I have the same issue, since I updated to the new File Provider System sometimes the Dropbox seems just to be lazy. The Internet is working, the status says its syncing, but it is not doing anything. The only thing what helps ist quit dropox and restart it again. I am using 200.4.7134
Is there any solution for this issue? - Walter11 months ago

Hi there FesT - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Can you let us know your computer's OS version and under which circumstances you notice this issue?
Have you tried logging out of your account and back in through the app's preferences or reinstalling the app since you first noticed this?
- -caffeinated-11 months agoHelpful | Level 5
Not wanting to confuse the issue, but this was never resolved for me regardless of OS or version of Dropbox or whatever. I think the problem is that a program (i.e. Ableton) is adding files to a 'synced' folder rather than the user, and somehow Dropbox doesn't then sync these files.

I am running macOS 14.5 (23F79). The circumstances are not clear to me some times it's running just fine and then all of the sudden it stops working for a while. What helps is rebooting the computer, quitting dropbox and restarting it.
I didn't try logging out or reinstalling so far. - FesT11 months agoHelpful | Level 7
Walter restarting the dropbox app as well as rebooting seems to fix it for a while.
An dwith "Not doing anything" I meant, that the app it self is responding, but the process of syncing is not working properly. Especially if you try to sync files, wich are in the dropbox and you want make them available offline is not working really stable. - Jay11 months ago

Thanks for the info, if you're continuing to experience these issues, could you contact the support team directly for them to investigate this in more detail?

This started happening to me about a week ago. It takes forever to process small files to "make available offline" also - and I'm not sure about anyone else, but dropbox was able to show a preview of the file, and that stopped happening about a year ago. Please make this app work again.

Hey Stunna55. What’s the app version and syncing status of your Dropbox app at the moment?
Also, if you check your app’s Sync tab, is the Dropbox folder stored under ~/Library/CloudStorage?
Finally, is the preview missing from your online-only files, or files you've made offline and which have been fully downloaded/synced to your device?

Hi there,
Are there any updates on this? The following remain issues (Dropbox and MacOS both current):
- Exports from applications into DB folder (from Ableton in my case) do not sync without me renaming them
- Still getting the 'syncing forever' issue where DB just seems to hang
Thanks

Hey -caffeinated-, sorry to see that you're still having this issue.
I see that Nancy had reached out to you via email, but the ticket was closed due to inactivity.
Since the issue persists, I'd suggest reaching out to our support team directly through this page.
Our team will be able to look into your issue in a more account-specific way and will be able to assist you further.

Hey
Dropbox and MacOS versions are latest.
Seems that i have the same problem. At some point of time i had indexing which was stuck and nothing helps except logging out and in. I did that. It creates second dropbox folder, which were syncing (where some of the files were missing). And there was the old dropbox folder which wasn't syncing anymore. It was fine, i needed some time to delete duplicated files and find out what was missing. Then it works. And dropbox asked me to move folder to file provider (/library/cloudstorage/dropbox). And it started indexing and stuck. So now i can not sync or use dropbox. The only way is to go to the website and download files. I'm already talking to support by email. But so far the problem hasn't solved. - Hannah10 months ago

Hey DmytroGo, sorry to see that you're having an issue with syncing on your Dropbox application.
What is your computer's exact OS version at the moment?
Also, can you send us the ticket number for your communication with support, so we can locate it in our system as well?
