How do I leave a shared Dropbox folder?
My friend invited me to share a 3gb folder she had. I accepted. Now I want to leave the folder and cant. I followed the advice from:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZoTpNkvPCI
The problem is that no folders appear under 'Sharing' in my Dropbox so I cant remove myself. I also looked for other ways to leave the folder but see no option to remove myself.
Any ideas on how?
Thanks
- Hey Padidto5,To remove yourself from the shared folder while you’re a member, try doing so from the website:
- Sign in to the website.
- Click Files.
- Navigate to the shared folder you want to permanently remove from your Dropbox account.
- Select the Share button that should appear next to the folder when you hover over it.
- Find your name under the list of emails.
- Click on the Can view/Can edit that’s next to your name.
- Select Remove my access.
If you’re not seeing this option or you’re still having trouble with this, let me know.

That option is not there. I can share, copy, open, download, etc.
Then it's not a shared file/folder but a regular file/folder in your account. If you simply chose to download it or save it to your Dropbox, there's no connection back to the original owner.

Hello, I am having the same problem!
other people have shared folders with me, which I don't need anymore
The thing is THAT I DON'T SEE THESE FOLDERS ON my dropbox account
I have eliminated ALL MY FILES from Dropbox and yet it still says that I have 8.66 GB
and I'm constantly getting e-mails asking me to upgrade.
I would just like to be able to remove myself from these shared folders/files ,
but I can't for I don't see them on my account.
I don't seem to have any option anywhere to allow me to leave a folder.
Thanks in advance for your kind reply

Hey sophia66, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Could you let us know what exactly is reported in regards to your account's quota under your plan tab?
Also, do you happen to see any folders listed on this page?

Hi there,
I am having a similar issue. There is a folder shared with me that I want to remove from my Dropbox, but I don't see the option to remove myself.
When I select "Share" and then "Who can access" on this folder to find my email on the list, there is no option to remove myself. It only says I can edit, but there's no further option. Any help is appreciated!

Hi lindsaylindsay, thanks for posting here!
Just to clarify, do you wish to temporarily remove this shared folder from your Dropbox account (with the option to add it back some time in the future) or permanently?

Thanks Nancy, I want to permanently remove myself from it.

Hey lindsaylindsay, how are you today?
Can you try this again, this time from a different browser or a private browsing window, to see if you get the dropdown with the option to remove yourself this time?

I've got a Dropbox folder showing in Finder that belongs to someone else. I no longer participate in his group so I want to Sever The Link (i.e. my personal link), but I'm afraid of somehow deleting everything for the other people who are still using the folder and its files.
Documentation seems to be about "Me" stopping "My" sharing with "Others," as if "sharing" is absolutely equivalent in both directions, or an "Other" never wants to secede from a specific instance of cooperation.
