I uploaded a folder from my desktop to Dropbox, but I'm not seeing it on the website

Hi,

I uploaded the folder, containing all the folders of my website, from my desktop into Dropbox.

Next I tried two things:

  • I created a new folder, oploaded it to the the folder of my site on my desktop, checked the folder in Dropbox: the folder was not synchronised;
  • - I created a new folder, uploaded it to Dropbox, into the folder of my website, checked the folder on my desktop: the folder was not synchronised.

I would prefer that the first approach would work: work on my desktop, after I have finished the same folder in Dropbox it would synchronise.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there lpvmc - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

Can you please clarify if you're using the Dropbox desktop app or a web browser to upload your files and folders?

If it's the former one, can you send us a screenshot of the app's exact status as shown in your system tray/menu bar? In case it's the latter, you can try clearing your browser's cache and/or try another browser

In any case, let us know of any updates!

Thanks Walter, for your quick response.

I have used Dropbox on my PC in my browser. There are those boxes on top with: upload, make etc. Uploaded the new folder into the container folder for anything related to my website. My browser is Firefox and I don't want to use another one.

Cache has been cleared and I have set Firefox to clear data and cookies whenever it is closed.

Will check later how things are now; have to hurry.

    KR, Leo.

    Unfortunately it still didn't work.

I upload the new folder into the container folder in Dropbox. It doesn't show in the same container folder on my desktop of the PC.

    Hi Ipv,

It sounds like your Dropbox isn't syncing properly. A few things to check:

    • Make sure Dropbox is running on your computer and syncing.
    • Ensure the folder you're working on is inside your local Dropbox folder—only those will sync.
    • Check if Selective Sync is turned on and excluding your folder (Settings > Preferences > Sync).
    • Make sure you're using the latest version of the Dropbox app.

If you prefer to work locally and have Dropbox sync automatically, always use the folder within your Dropbox directory.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more help.

    Best,
    Rao H

Sorry for my late response but I cannot work behind my computer everyday, unfortunately.

I think I have followed all of your suggestions.

This is how it is now:

    • I have added a folder in the container folder in Dropbox.
    • I can see the new folder in Dropbox on my i-phone and i-pad.
    • Nothing changed however in the container folder on my PC.

Probably this is how it should be?

Is the Dropbox application running on your PC? Hover your cursor over the Dropbox icon in your system tray.

Let us know what its status is (Up to date, syncing, indexing, etc.), as well as which version of the application you're running. It should look like this:

Assuming it's nothing private, what is the exact name of that folder? If the name is something private, can you tell us if there are any special characters in the folder's name? Anything other than the usual alphanumeric characters.

The container folder is named: pietclijsen1311.nl. In the first line of subfolders the '@' is used.

Wonder if this could be the problem.
