My Dropbox is not syncing to any of my devices
My Dropbox is not syncing to any of my devices. This has been going on for a couple of months. I have tried updating. deleting and reinstalling the app, etc.
Please help!

3 years agoIf you hover your mouse over the icon and you're not able to see anything there, then that's indeed rather odd fpulley
You should be able to attach a screenshot here, by clicking the camera-like icon, when trying to respond back to us, can you give it a go?

Hey fpulley, sorry to jump in here, but could you clarify your device's exact OS version for us?
This seems like a shortcut to the desktop app or the Dropbox folder on your computer. Have you tried an advanced reinstall perhaps?

I have Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
Version 10.0.22621 Build 22621
Thanks

That's the wrong icon. You need to look at the Dropbox icon in your system tray, near the date/time. On Windows 10 and Windows 11 it looks like this, and could be hidden, in which case you need to click the ^ arrow to show hidden icons.
Hover your cursor over that icon (don't click) and it will show the version and status of Dropbox.
Edit: Added Windows 11 screenshot

IT isn't in my hidden icons. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times.
Thanks for the reply.

Hi fpulley, did you try the advanced re-installation as my colleague suggested to resolve this issue?

I am running Dropbox on two Windows machines, one with Windows 10 and one with Windows 11. My files are not syncing with my Windows 10 machine. Dropbox states that it is up to date, but it is not up to date on my computer or on the website interface. I have tried logging out and back in and have waited hours just in case the syncing was slow.

Hi moremath, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Could you confirm the version number of the Dropbox desktop application on your Windows 10 by hovering over the little Dropbox icon, next to your WiFi in the menu bar?
What is the exact syncing status of the app on the device at the moment?
Also, is it possible that you have some incompatible characters on the files' names, and that's the reason they're not syncing?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

The version is 183.4.7058
The current syncing status is Up to date.
These are files that synced just fine two weeks ago and no file names have been changed.
Thank you for your assistance.

Hi moremath, if the Windows 10 is up to date, could it be the Windows 11 that's facing the issue?
You mentioned in your initial message that the website isn't up-to-date either. Which device do you use, in order to add new content to your account, and is it up and running?
Feel free to also have a look here.

The Windows 10 machine says it is up to date, but it is not. It is missing files from the past week. These files were worked on at the Windows 11 machine. I also have these files synced on a Windows 7 machine and it is not updating either.
I am currently unable to check the Windows 11 machine as it is in a different location...hence the use of Dropbox. But if the Dropbox website is not showing the files that were worked on over the past week. Two weeks ago, there were no issues between the Windows 10 and 11 machine. Something has changed and it causing serious problems for me.

Running windows 11 and have installed the Dropbox app(actually reinstalled it) I am missing files from the folders that are in the usual Dropbox account. I have looked at my sync setting and they are listed there. I have checked to see if they are hidden, they are not.
At a loss...

Hi Avmeister, welcome to our Community!
Just to clarify, are you able to locate the files when you visit your account online?
Is it possible that the folder contains some invalid characters, that might be stopping it from syncing locally?
If they don't could you confirm what the Dropbox icon (on your system tray) shows when you hover over it, in order for us to know the Dropbox version, and syncing status of the app?
Keep me posted!

Okay, so let's recap moremath
Both the Windows 10 and the Windows 11 devices claim to be up-to-date.
You mentioned that you can't see the files online either, and that you used the 11 to work on them, therefore it sounds like they haven't synced from the Windows 11 to your account online, and subsequently to the Windows 10 machine.
Our focus needs to be on the Windows 11, since the files were edited there. You'd need to check for the app's syncing status and make sure the app is running correctly there.

Yes, I am able to see all my folders within Dropbox both on my Mac and if I log into Dropbox directly. However, I cannot see all the folders within Explorer on my PC.
What symbols are not allowed within Explorer that would block that? Hmmm - Avmeister3 years agoExplorer | Level 4
Megan,
That was the solution, the file name contained a character that was not permitted.
