New Sync Feature is auto cloud only. I hate it. How do I turn it off permanently?
Prior to a recent Dropbox update, all of my files on my PC were automatically synced into the cloud. I've always had smart sync off, so that I get to choose what folders I want on my PC. I want them ...
- 5 years agoThanks for updating me here, Joseph!
And if you select your files, right click on them and choose 'Smart sync' > 'Local', do they get downloaded?

Look in the sync preferences. These features have been around for many years. Look at the option for save space automatically and turn it off

Alas, I've known--and have been using--that feature for years. It's off now and I've never turned it on. Yet, somehow, all my files automatically became cloud only a month or so ago. 😞 I've done as suggested by above and right clicked on the folder to make it local only, but will quadrillion-check to confirm that the settings are still set to off for 'save space automatically'.
I'm looking now and it's 'off'. Selective Sync is also selected to sync all folders with my PC.
I guess my original problem has been solved.

Hi Joseph Parks, any files you add from your PC into the Dropbox folder will remain local, they don't get marked as online-only immediately.
If you disable the save space automatically feature, then they won't become online-only after a month of not being used.
Bear in mind that Smart Sync is device-specific, so one computer could have all folders to be local, while another can have them online-only.
