Solved

One of my shared links can't be accessed without logging in to Dropbox first.

Hello,

I recently uploaded a .mov file into my new dropbox. I copied a link and made sure in the permissions that anyone with the link could view the video. I made sure it worked by opening the link in incognito and on another friend's device. The link worked as intended. However, today, the link says you need to sign in to protect the file. After signing in on a different account, it says you need to request permission to view the file. If I copy the "sharable link" on my original account again, this link works. But I need the older link that worked yesterday, under the SAME permissions, to work and allow anyone with it to view the file. Has anyone had a similar issue?

  • Dear Team,

I have resolved the issue. It was a strange formatting issue. Thank you.

There was no link expiration turned on for my old link by the way. So I don't know why now the old link needs permission.

Hey Nonta! Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Unless you deleted the old shared link and created a new one, the link you copied should be the same as the original one.

Can you open an incognito window on your browser again, take a screenshot of what you see when accessing the shared link and post it here? I’d just like to check the prompt you mention asking you to sign in, in order to see its contents. Of course, if there’s any private info showing, please make sure to mask it first.

Let me know when you’re ready.

Hi Nonta, thanks for letting us know that you resolved this issue.

Could you let us know more about the formatting issue, so that it might help other users? Was the link generated by the site incorrect, or somehow pasted incorrectly?

Hello, the formatting issue was on my end. The dropbox systems work as intended and the issue was a separate mistake I made on my own.
