Solved

sync icons are missing

I use Dropbox on iPhone and 2 PC's: Surface and HP all-in-one.

Synchronisation goes fine on all three however:

On the Surface all files and folders show sync icons.

On the HP no sync icons at all. I could not find out why and did not manage to make the icons appear on the HP as well.

Who can give the key to solve this problem?

  • Hello from me as well, Mebius! I’m glad to hear you figured this out.

From what I know, this is the limit for the overlay icons, as well, and it can’t be increased. However, since this is something regarding the Windows OS, I’d recommend having a look with Microsoft, in case there’s a workaround or something else they can suggest.

I've received several notifications from Dropbox that my PC hard drive is full and can no longer sync. I read the articles on how to check and control sync status but like others I don't have icons on my file explorer that are referred to in the article. I've restarted my computer - still no icons. What next?

This is what I see and no icons appear when I scroll over the folders either. Right clicking gives typical windows options - nothing to do with syncing.

    Thank you!

Hi chawkin401, let's jump right into this!

Have you tried re-installing Dropbox using this link? Also, when you look in your task bar, next to your WiFi, do you see a little Dropbox icon there?

If you do, can you try hovering your mouse over it, and checking the version of the app?

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

    Hi Megan,

    My dropbox version is 173.4.6706

I did try updating the dropbox on my laptop but it didn't change anything - still no status icons.

    Thanks!

    Christine

Hi chawkin401, it's a good thing to know that you're able to see the little Dropbox icon on your task bar.

If you hover your mouse over it, can you clarify the syncing status of the app right now?

Keep in mind that his issue may be related to other applications on your computer that use the icon overlay and context menu functionality of your OS.

Also, feel free to have a look at this response right here, and follow the steps in order to fix the positions of your icons.

    Hi Megan,

Last night it said syncing was up to date, but now it's says it can't sync due to not enough space on my hard drive. I've received this message intermittently which is why I want to change just my photos folder to online only.

My laptop is a work computer and I don't have admin rights. I looked at the icon folder described in the other question and I don't have dropbox icons listed in there.

Is it possible to make photos online only through my dropbox account settings rather than through my desktop?

Hey chawkin401, sorry to jump in here.

The icons might be missing, due to the fact that the app is not syncing, since you don't have enough hard drive space.

If you try to remove some folders from your Dropbox folder, using selective sync, does that help the app resume syncing?

And are your syncing icons back?
