view only link for everyone says Join Folder, Copy to Dropbox, Download. I DON'T want Join Folder.
I create printables I share on Etsy, and because the files are so large, I send a dropbox folder link. It USED to be that the page the link went to would have the choices at top Copy to Dropbox and Download ONLY. Now every link has Join Folder, Copy to Dropbox, and Download. I keep getting email requests to join the folder, which is really annoying. I just want someone to be able to download the files, and that's it. I cannot figure out for the life of me how to make the Join Folder go away! I've tried everything I can think of and nothing changes. I'm going crazy.
- 🗯 Important Update: Removal of the Join Folder Option from View-Only Shared Folder Links 🗯We introduced the capability to join a folder directly from a view-only link to make collaboration even easier. While well meaning, we don’t always get it right. We've heard your concerns, and after careful consideration, we've decided to remove this feature. This change will be implemented
within the next couple of days bymid March.Going forward, recipients visiting a view-only folder link will no longer see the option to Join Folder. No action or setting modification is required on your part. This change affects both new and existing view-only folder links.Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we encourage you to share any further thoughts or questions you might have.

I’m thinking maybe putting in large capital letters on the link download page IGNORE JOIN FOLDER. My workflow was so efficient before this change.

I haven't been able to sell any new stuff that's not like a single page because of that stupid Join Folder. I'm really frustrated. I've used Dropbox for everything, all my files, for over 10 years, but if there is no simple way to get rid of the Join Folder, I'm beginning to think I should look at using Google Drive instead.

Exactly. Now when the person clicks on the link, the "Join Folder" is highlighted in blue and it tricks them into thinking they have to join the folder in order to get the file, when all they need to do it is download it.
I wish Dropbox would make a change to this as I am tired of getting "requests to join my folder" emails!

What happens if we just ignore those emails, those **bleep** requests to join folder? I can't stand them either.

I have exactly the same problem. The new Link architecture or this new change is simply not good and completely disrupts my years-long workflow.
I used to receive all of my orders (music studio) through Dropbox and would always copy the data to my Dropbox. This is no longer possible in the iOS app. I no longer see any option to copy the data after receiving the link via WhatsApp or email.
At the same time, people are constantly joining my folders - I DON'T WANT THAT! I just want to share a link without someone having to join.
Please revert this change. This is just really bad and not worth the 160 euros a year. I'm actually a Dropbox fan, but this is just not acceptable.
I'm very, very frustrated about this "update." Why does everything always have to be made worse?
- Fairsarae3 years agoHelpful | Level 6Kommandant86, and it looks like Dropbox Transfer is only 2gb free with already paid Dropbox subscription, so for anything workable, I would have to shell out more money. I’ve used Dropbox for years, this is really disheartening and unusable. I’m looking at alternatives, not because I want to, but because it looks like I’m going to HAVE to.
- Kommandant863 years agoHelpful | Level 6I feel you. My projects are bigger than 2GB and the best workflow was for me: add to my Dropbox. 😕

Hi Sir , sorry but this is really annoying , you guys have totally ruined it and made our life so difficult
i just wanted to know how to create link without join folder option , but support team had no answer and they were not even aware of new changes they clearly need some more training , totally wasted time on chat and didnt even provide any solution
why do we need join folder option on every sharing link ?
if we are collaborating with someone then we will just create shared folder once and continue working from it
and if we are creating new links everyday clearly means we are dealing with new person everyday
before it was good if we wanted to have to join folder option on our link there was specific settings which we had to change , that too were inside not default
please let me know if you guys are planning on reverting this change or at least give option to disable join folder option on every link creation
this is so basic , please listen to customers , they are using your product more than you are on daily basis so they know better which feature should be there and which should not,
please change this

I too wish to remove the "Join Folder" option. Just like the original poster, I am sharing a folder to patrons for download only, not collaboration. I do not want people sending me Join requests all the time. I am a paying Dropbox customer and I would like to see a new permission added so this can be changed or so the requests can be automatically declined. Thank you.

Dropbox, this is a broken feature, with inconsistent user experience, and got rolled out to impact your customers who are paying for your service without articulating what it means or how to opt out. Just ROLL IT BACK. Telling from earlier replies to this thread, you clearly have no idea how your users are using folder sharing for their business like these who sell digital downloads. Sharing a view-only link while keeping Share Folder disabled is a clear indication the user doesn't want others to join the folder, and your Join Folder (and even highlighted) just turns the folder shared, and then Unshare Folder just breaks all past linkes shared. This is ridiculous design with rookie mistakes. Whoever designed this and pushed this rollout should just take the responsibility to roll it back for your users, give peace back to your users, and then re-work on this half-baked stuff.
