DropBox storage space usage is different than that reported by MacOS

According to my Mac, the two folders I have syncing to DropBox have a combined size of ~9.54 GB. However, my DB account reports that only 8.89 GB are currently used. The DropBox app on my Mac states that all files are up to date.

Is there a way to run an audit on the amount of space actually being used?

Other cloud services seem to have this issue, where they amount they report disagrees with the amount of space being taken up on my Mac. This is the unusual instance where the cloud service is underreporting the amount being used.

Hey DashingDave, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

Could you clarify what your account's plan tab is showing in regards to your quota?

Have you checked your backups page to see if there are any folders showing up there?

Let me know and we'll take it from there.

Looks like my plan tab shows that I have 8.9 GB of regular files, 0 bytes of backup files, 0 bytes of shared files, and 1.5 GB of unused space, for a total of 10.38 GB in my Dropbox space.

There was nothing on the Backups page, as apparently I don’t use that feature.

I see, thanks for the additional information DashingDave

Could you send me a screenshot of what you see when you right click on your Dropbox folder and select the 'Get info' option?

Hi DashingDave, sorry to jump here!

I see that you have approximately 4K files, which means that you can't check each individual one.

However if you access your Dropbox folder locally, and do a quick check through your folders, do you see any of them locally, that you might not be able to see when you visit your account online?

All the major files and top level files appear to be in both locations, local and online.
