Dropbox tells me that I'm over-quota, but I only see 2.4GB of files.

Thanks for dropping by the community parisppdo, to start I would investigate these things
- Shared folders: They count against your quota even if stored locally in a different location or not synced. Have you added any shared folders to your account?
- Deleted files that are still in the deleted items list continue to count until permanently deleted.
- Backups: Dropbox Backups count toward total storage and may not appear in the local Dropbox folder.
When we encounter issues like yours, one of these is usually the culprit
