Incorrect dropbox space usage on windows
Hi Guys,
My local Windows Dropbox is fully synced with my online Dropbox. Windows Explorer file/properties shows my Dropbox folder is 576 MB but to my surprise, dropbox.com and dropbox app bot...

We can confirm that the most recent releases of Dropbox should have resolved this issue. Users affected by this issue were unable to see all of the backups on their account. This meant that when they believe they deleted some or all of their files, there could still be backups taking up space on their account. This should no longer be affecting users who should be able to see all of their backups.
You can find out deleted information on disabling and deleting backups below:
If you disable the backup and choose to "Leave content in Dropbox", your backup content would still be there until it was permanently deleted.
When you go to the Backups page and see no content, be sure to check the deleted section, too.
You can download the files from this location if you need to store them locally on your device.
To clear out the data from the deleted backup, follow these steps:- Navigate to
dropbox.com/backup/all - Click on
Show deleted backups - Select their backup and click on
permanently delete
Some users did not have backups, but they were members of shared folders which were taking up space on their accounts. You can remove shared folders using these instructions.
If you are still experiencing quota issues after following these steps, then confirm that we can reach out to you via email and our support agents will look into this with you. - Navigate to

Thank you for your response. You're absolutely correct, I can now see where all my used data is - you've solved it for me 🙂
Checking https://www.dropbox.com/backup/all shows no files or data but using your link (https://www.dropbox.com/backups/PC) I can see numerous folders & files.
Thank you.

Hello
I use a dropbox basic account. At one point, even though I had a volume of files of only 1.8 Gb, I was notified that the account was full. I deleted the files I didn't need, but no space is freed up.
I deleted all the files, but then no space was freed.
Practically, although I have not uploaded anything, the account looks 90% full.
I disconnected all the devices, I deleted the cache memory, but it does not update.

I have a Basic 2GB plan. But my account says that I have used 77GB. How can I have so much more than my plan limit? As I loaded up files, wouldn't Dropbox have stopped me and required me to upgrade right then and there?
Is it possible that years ago I had a paid plan, loaded up more files, and then allowed my subscription to lapse?
And of these files totaling 77GB, I can only see files that total 42MB. Even if Dropbox has denied me access to any storage exceeding 2GB, then shouldn't I be able to see all the files up to my 2GB limit?

Hi Spike Mullin
Have you looked to see if you have accidentally set up BackUps? www.dropbox.com/backups ?

I have the same problem. My dropbox file limit was 8.8G and it says that I used 96.2G (93.3G regular files and 2.9G shared files). But I checked all my regular files, it should not exceed 5G. Anyone knows what is the problem? I did not use dropbox backup.

Hi, I have now had an issue for the past month or so - I have a 2GB account. Somehow, it's gone way over. There are two Zip files on there taking up a total of 1.01GB. There is a reported 18GB of used space, but cannot see where. There are no shared files with the account. I've deleted the files from Windows, and they are not on the Web version. I have even deleted them from the 'deleted files' section. Can anyone advise?

Hi refluentsquid, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Keep in mind that deleted files don't take up space on your account, so removing them wouldn't have made any difference to the quota.
Is it possible you have a backup enabled and visible on this page on your account?
Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!

That's worked - an external device got backed up without me knowing! Thank you!

Hi
I recently changed my login credentials to join a shared group which I was a part of with a different set of credentials. After changing the login credentials I can no longer access the shared folder, as Dropbox says I have exceeded the 2GB space limit. There seems to be some blocking issue, as the shared folder is only 316MB. Any suggestions to debug this ?
Thanks,
SubbaV

Hi SubbaV, let's jump right into this!
Is it possible you have a backup enabled and visible on this page on your account? Could you also check your account's plan page, and let me know what it reports there?
This will help me to assist further!

Thanks, Megan. Let check those two items out.

I have a basic free to gigabyte plan which is sufficient for my needs.
Recently, I am getting out of space messages. The message says I'm using 70 GB. Dropbox has stopped synching.
I have not changed any of my settings recently.
I have reviewed my account and cannot find the 70 GB anywhere. I have also permanently deleted files in the trash
I would appreciate any ideas regarding this problem.

Hello,
I'm having problems with my Dropbox account. It says that I have no available storage space (2.88 GB occupied / 2.75 GB max. capacity). However, I have checked that I have only files and folders for less than 100 MB. I have removed all shared folders, permanently deleted all the erased files, stopped any sharing that was not mine, and it still says that I have no available space. I don't know what else I have to do. Thanks in advance for your help.

Anything on your Backups page?

Hi,
that was the problem. I was not aware about that service and it turns out that I had a backup from a USB pendrive of 2.8 GB.
I have removed the backup of that device and the storage space has been recovered.
Many thanks for your help @Rich.

Yesterday I deleted my dropbox account because it couldn't sync because it was full of 50 gigs (there were 1,900 files inside, but I only saw 50 files). Then, I opened a new account with a different email with only six files inside. Today it's impossible for me to synchronize my account because it says there are 1,800 files inside, which I don't see. What can I do?

Hi Pippo123, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Is it possible you have a Backup enabled and visible on this page on your account? Maybe this is what's making your storage run low.
Also, do you have any shared content, that could be taking up your account's space?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

I don't have any files in my Dropbox, but I keep getting an error message that my box is "over quota". When I go to the Home page to delete files, it shows that there aren't any files to be deleted, but the "over quota" message keeps appearing. Any suggestions ?

I deleted the back ups, indeed. Thanks Mark.
Do you know if there's a way to change the settings about saving the back ups in the future?
