Out of space even after deleting files
I have deleted so many files and folders and my storage space has not changed. In searching I've noticed this issue stems back about 8 years but there seems to be so much confusion around it. Can someone from Dropbox please correct this for me? Thanks.
I had to delete backups and then when I delete other files logout and back in, then it shows the freed space. Thank you!

Have you checked you've not set up backups? www.dropbox.com/backups ?

When I look at the backups folder it is empty. I've never used backups and I deleted the temporarily deleted files (permanently deleted) this morning as well.

Can you post a screenshot of www.dropbox.com/home and www.dropbox.com/account/plan ?
Note that deleted files use no quota, so, permanent deletion will have changed nothing.

After researching, it seems that deleting or permanently deleting or even emptying your recycle bin don't free up space on Dropbox!!! WHAT is the point of this? I think they are trying to push users into buying to upgrade. This is ridiculous. What other alternatives that people have used are better? I've heard Box.om and Sync.com, but would like to ask those who have actually used these. Thank you.

That is not true. Deleting files will free up space in your account, though it might take a little bit before your space usage is updated. You don't need to permanently delete files. Simply deleting files is enough to free up space.
- jillspen3 years agoHelpful | Level 6Really? Not one person in all my research has been successful in getting space to free up after deleting. It even says on Dropbox's help site that deleting won't free up space.

Hi jillspen. Can you please send me a screenshot of what you see here? How much data did you approximately delete from your Dropbox account?
Also, where did you see exactly that deleting files from your Dropbox account doesn’t free up space?
Thanks!

Hello, I deleted several folders, did research and also found this from Dropbox help:

Thanks for this screenshot, jillspen!
The point you’ve highlighted means exactly that deleted files/folders don’t take up space from your Dropbox account, so it’s not necessary to permanently delete them, since they should already not be taking up any space (like Rich also mentioned above).
Can you also send me a screenshot of what you see here? How much space was taken on your Dropbox account, before you deleted the folders you mention?

Thank you for replying. When I looked at my space, it said I had used 1.8gb out of 2gb. I had then deleted as many actual files, folders, and pictures as I could, and it STILL says 1.8gb. I definitely deleted some significantly large files. This is what I don't understand. I delete the files, and NO space is freed up. It doesn't make sense.
Thank you!
