Are there initial requirements to be able to be Added to a "Team"?
The team admin needs to invite you to join the team. Note that this isn't the same as joining a shared folder. When you join a team, the account you join with is merged into the team account, making the team admin the owner of your account. At that point you're able to take advantage of the storage quota available to the team.
If you're only invited to join a shared folder, you're still limited to the amount of space available in your own account, and will need enough space in your account to hold the entire shared folder.

Thank you very much Rich! I'm closer to understanding!
So, upon closer examination, I see that the Company / Team Leader has a DropBox Plus Account (which I believe has been deprecated and is no longer a choice), and the Leader is merely Sharing Folders.
I have Removed myself from Share Access to Project Folders that we are no longer actively engaged in; so I have "bought" back pretty much all of my available storage space.
I think that I should better acquaint myself with the intricacies of DropBox so that I don't bother people with questions like this in the future.
Thank you again! MDP
