Referral sent to a friend marks as inelegible
Hi
I sent a request to a friend for them to install Dropbox. They followed all the process steps and were awarded 259mb. On my account against their referral email, it is marked as ineligible.
This does not make any sense, they set up the account on a different computer. So why is this marked as ineligible? Can someone please look into this for.
My email is <<removed to avoid spam>>
Regards, Tahir
- Hey Ranim Al-shakifi, thanks for joining the discussion here and happy Monday!
I just wanted to mention that when the recipient is ineligible for the referral program, there are two possible reasons:
One is that the recipient has already registered an account with Dropbox with that email address, or that the recipient is attempting to register using the same computer as you.
If you feel this status is inaccurate double-check the email address of your recipient to try again.

Hi Dropbox Team,
I invited two of my colleagues to use Dropbox. Both of them are new users who had never installed Dropbox before. However, it seems that since we are working on the same LAN, the referral status shows as ineligible.
This is quite discouraging, as I was hoping to invite more of my colleagues to use Dropbox together for our collaborative work. Could you please let me know if there is any way to change this status or make the referrals eligible? Thank you very much for your time and help.
Best regards,

Hi Megan,
Thanks for getting back to me. One was at work on our office network, the other was at my house on my personal network. In each case, they used their own computer but yes, we would have been on the same network since I was with each person when they signed up.
Thanks for the article. I have read it and don't see any reason listed there why they would be listed as ineligible.
Thanks again!

Hi JamminJamjar, let's investigate further!
If a referral is showing as ineligible on the Dropbox site, then it should mean that the referral user attempted to activate the referral from the same network as yours.
Is this a possibility for the users when they activate that specific referral? You can also check this section of the relevant Help Center article for more info.
This will help me to assist further!

Over the last few days, I have invited four people to use dropbox via the referral link, hoping to benefit from the referral bonus. Two of these invites were genuine: to other people who have seen me use dropbox and appreciated it's functionality. However, in each case, they clicked on the link, signed up, downloaded the app (onto a computer that has never had it installed before, I have read these forums) - and both times on my referral page it came up as ineligible.
So, I decided to test it out further, and used two of my burner emails. I have two old computers that again, have never had dropbox installed, so followed the same process and, again, ineligible.
Why does it not work? Which part have I missed? I thought the limit was 16gb, but it seems I've been capped at 4.25gb.
