After moving Dropbox folder, Dropbox app is stuck at "Downloading 31 files..."

I've moved Dropbox location from system drive to other drive (from Preferences -> Sync -> Change location). It completed moving after 5 hours.

It's been few days since the move and the app is stuck now at "Downloading 31 files...". In Explorer, most of the files have this icon:

I have enough disk space on my PC, enough space left on Dropbox account, decent connection and brand new PC.

The files it tries to download have extension ".js.download", likely from incomplete website backup.

Before the move, the app was not stuck. Why is it even trying to "download" something when I only moved the folder? How do I unclog the app?

  • Removing the .js.download files fixed it.

It's strange they were blocking Dropbox from syncing, though. These .js.download were old and not used, so it was incorrect for Dropbox to assume they were locked.

  • Hi, ned666 ,

Did you try to quit the Dropbox app in the taskbar and try again? Sometimes when Dropbox is trying to sync a large number of files (not necessarily large file sizes), it may get stuck.

    Cheers

Hey ned666, let's see what we can find together about that!

As a first step, I would also suggest quitting the app, or even signing out and back in.

What happens if you locate these syncing files, and move them outside of your Dropbox folder, and then back in? Does that change things?

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!
