Dropbox freezes and crashes my file explorer.
Hello,
I am having trouble with dropbox working through my Windows file explorer. For some reason, within the last week every time I try to navigate to one of my dropbox files the file explorer cr...

Thanks Hannah. Happy to try something if you have ideas. Unlinking Overleaf unfortunately didn't fix it. Still befuddling. I'm guessing this is a pretty isolated problem/not many people have it (though some seem to have) otherwise there would have been many more threads about it than the few I've found. It may just be what it will be.

Did you try the fix mentioned a few messages back re: converting hardlinks to copies? (Alt-H under the Accounts tab of Preferences in the Dropbox app). Had similar behaviour to you (affecting any of the cloud provider folders - for me that's OneDrive and Dropbox) and that did the trick (though annoyingly it seems to come back when an app update happens).

I'm having the same problem here, July 2024, menu is painfully slow, the context menu never opens, and files get stuck for ever to sync. Client service is miserable and only tells me once and again to update hardlinks, seems to be the only solution they have for everything.

What do You mena by "update hardlinks"?

Yeah... the 'hardlinks' thing works, but very briefly: I suspect in the same way that quitting and reopening dropbox works very briefly. It interrupts the problem rather than solving it.
I can get it to reproduce very easily - it's whenever there's a file it can't sync (so says 'file is in use' if you hover over the system tray icon). And I use InDesign all the time, who's lock files fall into this category - so very easy to see it happen. If you close down the offending program, it'll sometimes realise and finish syncing and then is happy again. More often it gets fully stuck and you have restart Dropbox to clear it.
Never used to be like this - seems to be tied to a recentish update (though not the Dropbox for Windows Experience update https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-Cloud-Files-for-Windows/Updated-Dropbox-for-Windows-Experience-What-you-need-to-know/m-p/697233 - as I have a Business account which hasn't updated to those new fangle native icons and that's also affected).
