Dropbox needs to update the required Fedora repository.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this.  This is just a heads up that Fedora Linux was updated earlier this week to 42 and so the Dropbox Fedora repository is now producing error messages as it's still pointing to 41.  The repository is at https://linux.dropbox.com/fedora.

    Thank you for your reply Conductor​ and for your attempt to help me out.  I think you're definitely correct in your suggestion.  However I actually discovered the cause of my problem yesterday.  Even though I had the Dropbox repo file on my system, the version of Dropbox that was actually being used was coming from the rpmfusion-nonfree repo!  I've managed to change that now and everything works as it should.

    So you deleted the dropbox repo to resolve the conflict?

    I deleted Dropbox from the rpmfusion repo and then reinstalled it using 

    sudo dnf install dropbox --repo=Dropbox

    to make sure it came from the official Dropbox repo.  I then had to include these two lines in the rpmfusion-nonfree.repo file to avoid further conflicts

    exclude=dropbox
    exclude=nautilus-dropbox

    So what you have done is ensure Dropbox is the sole source for the application. I've done the opposite, deleting the Dropbox repo from rpmfusion so that everything comes from Fedora (actually Flatpak). While it takes several minutes for the tray icon to wake up after a reboot, it does eventually do so ... maybe 30 minutes after the reboot. And Dropbox is v. 226.3.5047 -- which is also the version that I saw shortly after installing the 225.x.xxxx version directly from Dropbox a few days ago.

    Dropbox works with little friction in KDE Plasma (Fedora 42). It's only the GNOME edition (Workstation) where I have these issues. I sometimes wonder whether the Dropbox developers are thinking that there's only so much effort they will expend to make Dropbox work in the multitude of Linux flavors/filesystems for the 4% of users, while the Fedora and GNOME (especially GNOME) developers are saying that keeping cutting edge development is our mission, and external developers and users will just have to cope. Would be nice to have a meeting of the two, but, of course, there's no time.

    I'm using KDE on Fedora 42 and Dropbox works fine.  I did have to install nautilus-extensions and libgnome as well though but I've now upgraded to Dropbox 225 (the rpmfusion version is still 224). I don't really use Flatpak apps apart from Spotify.  That's a long time to wait for the tray icon to wake up.  I don't think I could live with that.

    Thanks for flagging this. From what I’ve seen, the actual number of Fedora users running Dropbox is fairly small compared to other platforms, but there’s definitely a consistent group in the Fedora community who rely on it. That’s probably why these repo updates don’t always come immediately, but it’s still important for those who do use it day-to-day.
