Error 0x80096010 while installing on Windows Insider Build 1903
i am having problem while installing dropbox on a new pc with error code 0x80096010, please help me asap, thanks in advance
- 7 years agoHang on, I’m noticing a pattern here. Before we take this to email, if you’re all running the same version, namely Windows 1903 from Windows Insider, then this is not currently a fully tested or supported environment for the Dropbox desktop application. From the articles I’ve checked out, it seems that the 1903 update will be released some time in April, and by then the app should be functioning. While we support a variety of operating systems, we are unable to support these versions until they are officially classified as stable. If you’re not running this version of Windows, let me know what version you’re running by checking it using the steps here.
- 7 years agoI’ve forwarded your comments to our dev team in order to investigate this matter further. In the meantime, if possible, you’ll need to return to the stable build of Windows in order to get the Dropbox desktop application syncing again.

but it works after windows update to current version. i just need to reinstall dropbox, and after uninstalling can't install dropbox again.

If you’ve returned to Windows 1803 or 1809, and you’re still unable to install the Dropbox desktop application, did you try all the steps in my previous post with the advanced reinstall?Do you still get the same error message? - Jim_Di7 years agoHelpful | Level 5
i can't rollback to older version, but try advanced reinstall and still getting error message, maybe installer have comman line options for debug logging?

The installer logs should be visible in either one of these locations:%LOCALAPPDATA%\Dropbox\installer\l %APPDATA%\Dropbox\installer\l
Copying and pasting them into File Explorer will take you directly to that location.Perhaps you could post a small section of that log, excluding any personal info (locations etc) - Ron2S7 years agoNew member | Level 2
I think that Dropbox support should try to install the Windows Insider build for 19H1 (1903). This could be something that you need to get a head start on if Microsoft has done something in the next release that somehow prevents Dropbox from installing. I think it would be better if you knew about what is causing this now rather than the day after Microsoft starts pushing out the next release and Dropbox stops working.
There is something that calls itself Dropbox in the Microsoft Store which says that this app will not sync your dropbox files to the dropbox folder and you won't be able to have any access to the Dropbox files outside that App. That statement really scared me when I read it.

Hi Ron, if you’re referring to this app, then that is an official Dropbox app, which works like the mobile app. This means there isn’t a Dropbox folder, and instead allows you to preview files on your account without any live syncing. If you want to upload files, you need to do it manually in that app. This is an option for people who don’t want files to download to your machine, or for Windows S users who can’t install non-Microsoft store apps, and is an alternative to using the Dropbox site.Regarding the message everyone is getting, I’ve already advised the dev team about this matter. - ComicBookGuy7 years agoNew member | Level 2
Don't mark this as solved, it clearly isn't!

Had to go back to 1809 :disappointed_relieved:
