I see a runtime error from DropboxUpdate.exe every time I boot my Windows 11 device.
I keep getting this error in a Windows pop-up dialog box, when I boot up my Windows 11 Pro computer:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Update\DropboxUpdate.exe
R6030 - CRT not initialized
I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Dropbox, twice.
- I have not seen the error since reinstalling the Dropbox desktop application yesterday.
If I see it again I will post but that may have fixed the issue.
Thank you! 😊

Hey Jon9999, thanks for posting about this here. What's the app version of Dropbox on your computer?Did you notice this error appear after any updates on your OS/Dropbox app?Let me know and we'll go from there. - Saiph11 months agoExplorer | Level 4
I got this error today, Sat 17th Aug 2024. Dropbox tooltip says "DropBox 205.4.5765". Windows 10 Home. There was a Windows update yesterday. Has this caused a problem? Will this persist? What is the cause? I have had this error in the past as well. Why does it keep recurring?

Hey @Saiph, according to Microsoft, the reason for this issue could be related to antivirus programs interfering with DLL loading.
Can you take a look at the article here, to see if it helps?

Thanks for your reply Hannah. I don't fully understand all the technicalities of the article, but it looks like Windows Defender (my only anti-virus) may be regarding some of the Dropbox code as potentially malicious, and preventing it from running properly. I will investigate how I might be able to set up an exception in Defender so it ignores the DLL in question, and hopefully that will fix things.

I'm having the same issue - Windows 11 - I've been having it for a couple of months. It happens mostly after not using my system for a while and my screen is blank and I come back to it to login.

Hey xtianp, sorry to hear that.
Did you have the time to take a look at the article I linked in my previous reply on this thread?

Hi Hannah 😊
Thank you for your reply. I did look at the article but I don't have any weird software installed. The security software is the standard that comes with Windows, nothing fancy.
The latest version of DropBox is installed, 9/18/2024.

Hi xtianp, could you try reinstalling the Dropbox desktop application, without uninstalling it first, to see if this helps?

Hi Jay,
I have now done that. I will post if it happens again.
Thank you
