Thanks for that User134679, and for sticking with me here while we look into this!
Let's try manually resetting the default folder location for the Desktop folder. You can exit out of the desktop app setup by quitting the app before taking these steps.
To do this, please navigate to the Desktop folder in File Explorer (not the folder in Dropbox) and then:
- Right click the Desktop folder
- Choose "Properties"
- Go to the "Locations" tab
- Choose to reset to default location.
This will reset the folder location to ensure that it's in the correct location. Once you've done this, can you let me know if you have the same issue when moving the desktop files from Dropbox to the actual Desktop?
If so, please try the previous suggestion once more to reinstall the desktop app and enable the backup.

No it's fine.
But for me it says my email was removed per community guidelines, and I haven't received any email of such. - Hannah5 years ago

I am having the same issue. I've deleted the app but it still dropbox as my default path for my pictures.. All of my pictures from my desktop seem to be lost or gone from the folder. And in the properties the default pathway is dropbox but when I try to restore the default path, an error message pops up saying "Can't redirect into reparse point, please choose different target path." Like really ??? I did not give dropbox the ability to backup my computer yet it still did it anyway. Now I've lost over 100GB of family pictures from the past years.. Very upset with Dropbox and this bug.

Hey dvaughanle, sorry to see you're having trouble.
It does sound that somehow you enabled our backup feature, for this to have happened.
Is Dropbox now uninstalled from your computer? And was Dropbox backup disabled before uninstalling it?
Have you searched your recycle bin or the deleted files page in Dropbox for the missing files?
- anonymous3 years agoHi,
I am facing a similar issue. I have uninstalled, deleted my account, and relinked the pathways via file location. But in spite of deleting the Dropbox folder numerous times it keeps being recreated.
I have a desktop location separate from Dropbox, but for some reason my PC will not use that pathway. Do I need to reinstall Dropbox and select unlink? I don't want to make another Dropbox folder on top of the one I'm trying to delete. Please help - Walter3 years ago

Hi there anonymous, sorry to hear about this.
Could you send us a screenshot of where you're spotting Dropbox in your file or folder paths so that we can have a visual too?
Also, did you enabled the Dropbox Backup feature at some point in the past perhaps?
- anonymous3 years ago
It may have been automaticly enabled. I have been able to relink all of the pathways for the default libraries, but the dropbox folder is still being generated and used as the native folder for any taken photos i.e. the screenshots.

Hi anonymous, in the Dropbox folder where you see the Document, Music, Pictures and Videos folders, could you try getting the same properties tab from there for one of those folders?
- anonymous3 years ago
Yes,
I can access the location in the properties tab. Should I try remapping that pathway and then after moving those files delete the folder?

First, could you try clicking the button in that image for restoring the default location, to see if this helps?

Fixed!
Thank you, I moved the files that kept making the folder again and relinked the others.
I appreciate the help.
