Problems after moving Dropbox location. Why do I need to do that?

I was asked to agree to change the location of my dropbox folder in my finder menu to location from favourites.

Now everything is a is hard to use - with spinning - and there are cloud signs beside each folder.  Can you tell me why this is necessary and if I can fix it by putting it back .  What is the need for this and will it. update my files automatically like it did before?

thank you

Hey CLB1, thanks for posting here today!

It sounds like your app updated to the new Dropbox for macOS on File Provider update, is that the case? As part of the Dropbox for macOS on File Provider update, the Dropbox folder must be located in ~/Library/CloudStorage, so you can confirm that way.

Provided that's the case, then unfortunately, it is not possible to revert to an older version, but it will definitely update your files the way it did before.

The updated Dropbox for macOS on File Provider experience was developed to adhere to the requirement as set out by Apple and to ensure the best possible experience for our Mac users long into the future.

As for the icons, you can see more at this Help Center article.

If you have any questions, let me know!
