The Dropbox desktop application doesn't appear in my system tray on Windows
Dropbox does not appear in my system tray
I have a dropbox app v210.4.4854 on my desktop but it does not activate dropbox in my system tray
I can drag the dropbox shortcut from my desktop to my task bar, then if I click on it in the taskbar, it doesn't open anything but it does activate dropbox in my system tray. After that, I can upload items into my dropbox desktop shortcut and they do sync finally to my iphone.

Hi billieraven, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Could you try reinstalling the Dropbox desktop application, without uninstalling it first, by using this link?
What is the exact version of Windows OS that you're running on your machine?
Keep me updated with any details!

I installed from your link but unfortunately now I can't tell if there is a new installation of dropbox as the only thing showing is the taskbar and system tray icon which might the the old that i already had there. Should I uninstall and try again?
THANK YOU
Windows OS Build 19045.5011

plus when I restart my computer I am back where I started with no dropbox icon in system tray, and if I put a file in the dropbox shortcut on my desktop it does not sync with iphone, then if, like before I manually send dropbox to my taskbar, and click on it, then everything syncs.
I think I have a sick computer ...

Is it possible the Dropbox icon is being hidden in the Windows 10 system tray? You can check by using these steps and to unhide the Dropbox icon permanently.

Not hidden, not there BUT
When I choose which icons should show on the taskbar Dropbox is checked on

In the Dropbox desktop application preferences, is this setting enabled to have it start when the computer is booted?
- billieraven8 months agoExplorer | Level 4
In my desktop Startup Apps, Dropbox is checked
But
If I try to find the Settings in the General Tab....
I can't.
I can right-click the dropbox app, select Preferences, go to the General Tab but that does not provide any reference to start dropbox on system startup nor any Account tab
I'm sure I'm being DENSE and I hate taking up so much of your time.
I no longer have any dropbox in my taskbar
I can slide dropbox shortcut into the task bar, I have to click on that, it doesn't open anything but it puts the dropbox in the taskbar
That's going to have to be as elegant a solution as I can find 😉

I think I know what the problem is and it is unfixable. I messed up a while ago and I've totally rearranged my file structure on this computer. I see that dropbox is not installed on C:/ because C no longer exists (or I don't know where it is) Dropbox is installed on my name
Billie Raven/desktop. I think I did an heck of a job messing up.
It's fine really I'll just continue to drag shortcut into taskbar and clicking on that. I just wanted to make sure I could access certain files on my phone since I am going to the hospital 😞
I will try getting one drive or google drive to obey me
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR KIND HELP!

Hey Jay,
Just want to thank you for all your patient help.
I've surrendered, going to use something else.
I uninstalled all trace of dropbox off my computer, installed a new one and wow, it went in my taskbar and lit up when I put something in it and it was set to system startup...
but today, nothing, gone and even if I try to put the shortcut in the taskbar which used to work now it sees it as going in explorer.
I'm just too stupid.Odd, because I've used dropbox a long time and it always synced.
Alas, time moves on!
Thanks again
