Unusual data/bandwidth usage and storage

We currently have two laptops running Dropbox and sharing the same folder.

The first laptop is a Mac running Monterey 12.4. This computer shows the shared file as being 60.15gb and using 3.6% of storage allowance. Monitoring data usage for an hour showed that dropbox used approximately 2.2mB

The second laptop is a running Windows 10 Pro, This computer shows the shared file as being 54gb and using 7.2% of storage allowance. Monitoring data usage for an hour showed that dropbox used approximate 1.8gb of data

Neither computer was accessing files, adding or removing files etc while we were checking all of this

If both laptops are sharing the same folder, both have the same storage allowance and have the same sharing settings, both set to files available offline why are there such large differences.

In particular why does the Windows computer transfer such large amounts of data.

Thanks

Hey NathanHi, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community.

Firstly, I wanted to ask you if these two computers are both connected to the same Dropbox account or if this is a shared folder, shared between two different accounts.

What's the sync status and version of the Dropbox app on both computers?

You can hover over the Dropbox icon, to see this info.

Let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

    Hi Hannah,

Each computer has it's own account. It is a shared folder, between two different accounts.

The windows computer only has this folder in it's dropbox account.

    Sync and version details are

Mac - 179.4.4985 and up to date

Windows - 179.4.4917 and up to date

    Thanks

    Thanks for this info, Nathan!

Does updating the Dropbox app on the Windows computer to the most recent version help in any way?

Can you also check if there are any incompatible characters in the names of the files within the folder, that might not be syncing on the Windows computer, causing the discrepancy?
