What is the authenticator?
I'm moving my dropbox account off a Mac and onto a linux machine. When I try and install dropbox, I get as far as entering my email/password and it asks me for the 6 digit code on the "authenticator"...

it specifically asked for the value from the authenticator. And no, there was nothing in email
