9 years agoDropbox app for Android causing high battery usage
Hi there, I’m Antonio, a member of the Dropbox Mobile team. We’ve discovered an incompatibility issue between Dropbox’s app and Android OS that led to higher-than-normal battery usage on Android phones.
We’ve fixed the issue, and the app should return to normal functionality after restarting it.
To restart the app:
- On your device, open the Settings app and select Application Manager
- Switch to the Running tab to view your active apps
- Tap the Dropbox app and select Stop
- Re-launch the Dropbox app from your home screen
If you’ve restarted the app and are still seeing higher-than-normal battery usage, please reply to this thread, and we’ll take a look.
- Hi Alan, the main release of v76 will be rolled out 100% on this Wed. v78 will follow 2 weeks after that.
We’re glad to hear about this. We’d recommend that if any users still experience battery issues to contact our team directly so we can investigate this matter on an individual basis.

I had an update on my ticket, they said a problem was identified and a change was made to the servers on Friday which should stop the app sucking battery power.

Hi,
I'm seeing this problem as of late (I would say a week, maybe a bit less). Dropbox is using a huge amount of battery and it's causing a large "Keep awake" time (I attach some screenshots at the end). I tried installing the beta version and it's the same situation.
I think it's related to wifi somehow, as the problem seems to be less acute when not on wifi, but I cannot assure that (I cannot correlate the plot of battery drain with the wifi on/off).
Any ideas of what could be happening?
Kind regards,
Albert
- ischustak9 years agoNew member | Level 2I am running Dropbox 66.2.2 on my HTC 10 phone running Android 7.0. Dropbox is killing my battery and preventing my phone from sleeping while the screen is off. I've tried clearing cache, clearing data, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but the problem persists. Can you help?

Thanks for sharing this - I've passed it to our Android team - DjKarras9 years agoNew member | Level 2
Thanks a lot!
I have an extra piece of information, don't know how to relay it to the team... It looks like usage goes on with time of the day, somehow. Don't know if this helps, but Samsung starts complaining about drain usually later in the afternoon.

Dropbox is a excelent app.
- Oula9 years agoExplorer | Level 3I'm also seeing an extensive battery drain with Dropbox 68.2.2 version (the previous version was the same) for Abdroid. My phone is Huawei Mate 9.
I've tried to restart and reinstall several times, but no difference. Even though there are no uploads ongoing, the Dropbox app consumes 15% of the battery. Mainly because it seems to keep the system awake even though there's nothing happening.
