2 years agoSo, you're not physically on the computer that's having the issue BetsyR - did I get that right?
Have you tried clearing your browser's cache or using another browser by any chance?

No, I was logging in remotely yesterday but I am onsite on the same computer today and still can't get it to connect. There should be nothing in the cache since this is a brand new computer to me and so I haven't done anything on it yet, but I will try that and another browser anyway and let you know what happens... Actually the whole point is I am trying to sign in on the chrome browser since that is what I use most so how is signing in to a different browser going to help?
I just tried my recovery words again (which I was able to access on my iphone so I know they are correct) and I got this...

I see, thanks for the additional information BetsyR
Since you'd like to use Chrome to do this, i'd suggest making sure that you're running the latest version and that you're not using any browser extensions that might be interfering.
If your browser is up to date and the issue persists, please let us know here and we'll reach out via email to investigate further.

Just tried this but it didn't help

No need, I’ve reset the account and started again. Looking through the community, it looks as though this issue has been around for a while and not been solved. I don’t have that many passwords saved, so it’s not a big issue. But a couple of things could’ve helped:
- users should be asked to create the password recovery file after creating the account. You have to go and find the option. I’ve done it now.
- there should be an easy way to SAVE the password recovery words, not just print it out. Who saves paper these days?

So brand new install of windows, I only had the extension on this machine, so with a drive format, and then reinstall of windows and then firefox, my addon as of now is just the dropbox password manager as it contains all of my logins for my job... but it wants me to click a notification on "firefox windows" zero notifications come up, this is a new install... nothing is blocked or tweaked. so what gives? also the backup passwords I have from the dropbox site it's self are not even valid it tells me. so now the problem is, how to resolve this... as this is mission critical.

Hi Andrew B.58, the notification that the prompt mentions would've been on the older Firefox browser, which is on the now-formatted Windows, so it would be impossible to get that notification now. It won't pop-up on the existing Firefox browser, since it is unknown to the Dropbox Passwords extension.
This means that the only option remaining, as you mentioned you have no other devices connected to your Dropbox Passwords account, would be to enter the recovery words. What is the exact error you got when entering the words?
- Andrew B.582 years agoExplorer | Level 3
when I enter the recovery words. it leaves out the numbers in the recovery words.
so it say's "
That doesn’t look right. Check your spelling and try again."these are the recovery words direct from the dropbox website. - Jay2 years ago

Are you certain that you're entering the recovery words (without the numbers) in their original order as shown on the site?
- Andrew B.582 years agoExplorer | Level 3
yes.
this is an example of the code 96x9 v3on, taking the numbers out of it did not change anything, still says the error. a reset is NOT what I can do on this.

It sounds like you're not referring to the 12 recovery words, which is for the Dropbox Passwords feature, but the recovery code, which is for the two-step verification feature.
You can only get the recovery words from within the Dropbox Passwords app or extension. Since you mentioned you're able to access them now, it is more likely you're looking at the recovery code, which cannot be used for Dropbox Passwords.
Are you certain that you don't have a backup of the recovery words? There would be 12 words, such as football bear keyboard window glass, etc.
- Andrew B.582 years agoExplorer | Level 3
yep 100% positive now I do not have the 12 words, I searched my network drive at work, I ran a massive search over 9tb of storage, checked my screenshots folder, even looked in my NDA folders just incase I stuffed it into that, nope, so guessing I'm boned? meaning I'll have to get IS to reset everything and get me a new encryption key for my work laptop... great.
unless you have something else we can try?

Unfortunately, as we have no access to your passwords on our end, without the 12 recovery words, it wouldn't be possible for you to restore your Dropbox Passwords account.
I'm sorry I can't be more helpful on this matter.

okay jay, thank you. I'm getting written up! yay for me! lol. I have learned a lesson... I backed everything else up, all my codes, this one I forgot to do.

Same problem. New device. Tried to add chrome extension. Prompted for either other device verification or recovery words. Did both. I DID get a notification on my Pixel phone, and clicked 'connect'. Nothing happens with the chrome extension. Tried recovery words. Enterred all 12 correctly, got error 'something went wrong'. cleared cache, uninstalled and reinstalled extension. Stil cannot get in. Can someone assist?
