Getting notifications about online-only files, with Google Drive/OneDrive active
I have a regular DropBox account that I've been using for many years. This afternoon, it suddenly started giving my this very same notification every 30 seconds or so. It doesn't tell me which file...

2 years agoHi all, for anyone who's still affected by this, could you ensure that Google Drive or One Drive is not syncing your Dropbox folder and let us know if that resolves the issue with the notifications?

I can verify that excluding the Dropbox folder from Google Drive does stop the notifications. But that's not something I want to do.
The temporary solution proposed by UptownPulp in this thread did stop the notifications. Users shouldn't have to go through all that to resolve the issue, however. I suspect this will materialize again at some point until the root cause has been addressed.

Belay that - the problem resurfaced again this afternoon even though I haven't made any changes to any files in my Dropbox. Sigh...

I have found that if I pause sync for thirty mins , the problem goes away and my files go back to syncing with no problem

I tried that, but it did not work for me.

Bill_Richards The issue came up unexpectedly for me again as well. No PC shutdown/restart, so I don't know what triggered it. The temp fix I posted still works.
Walter A number of us have already reported that stopping one of the two cloud services will stop the notifications. I posted a detailed approach to figuring out my temporary solution, and narrowed down the problem to some troublesome files. Disabling one of the cloud services, or keeping them separate from each other, is not a "solution" when it hasn't been a problem for years.
Also, many of the posts regarding this specific issue that were originally posted in this thread (1), have now been merged into the current thread. Thank you for locking that thread and grouping our posts into the more appropriate thread.
