What will happen with my data after my plan ends?

When you end a contract with Dropbox, why is some data still accessible after 2 years?
It should have been deleted according to Dropbox statement.

    Hey Robin17!

If the account was permanently deleted, then its content should have been removed for good. Is it possible that you simply disbanded the team instead of deleting the account?

Is the data available when you visit your account online, or when you check your desktop app?

Are we talking about a shared folder, and shared files or individual content inside your account? Have you tried deleting them, by any chance?

Our team is not in locked state anymore, since it was disbanded in August 2024 already as the message of Dropbox stated!

The issue is, that some data seemt to be available still, while it should have been deleted as Dropbox stated. But it is not???

How can we proceed, as no support of Dropbox can or will help us if we do not have a contract?

Hey Robin17, thanks for checking in with us here about this!

It sounds like your team is part of a locked state. If you wish to delete the account, then it's best to either disband or even delete the team permanently.

If someone is or will soon downgrade to Dropbox Basic, what they need to be aware of is what's mentioned here.

Essentially, some free accounts might be subject to deletion, as the article highlights. Of course, we also need to keep in mind this scenario as well.

If you need anything else don't hesitate to reach out!

    Hi Rich,

We did cancel our subscription and the last information we received was this:

You’re the team admin of the "xxx" team. This team is currently in locked state, which means your trial period expired or your Dropbox plan wasn’t renewed.

Starting today, we’re rolling out changes that limit how long teams can remain in locked state and provide 3 ways to get out of it:

    • Keep Dropbox for teams and purchase a new plan

    • Disband the team

    • Delete the team permanently

If "xxx" is still in locked state after August 14, 2024, the entire team, which includes all files, and admin and member accounts will be deleted permanently.

Please note that if your team is deleted because it remained in locked state, folders shared with people outside your team will be deleted shortly after August 14, 2024 as we’ll give external collaborators a heads up that the folders will be deleted. Read more about what happens to your externally shared folders in our help center article.

Did you actually delete your account, or did you just cancel your subscription?
