Unable to change the name of a device

Walter, I did as suggested, but it didn't change the situation. Attached is an annotated screenshot that indicates the problems I'm having.

Same problem here. My device's name shows as Mac.lan, which is not the device's name. It appears that Dropbox is truncating the name and adding a .lan to it. I have tried unlinking the device from Dropbox and adding it again — nothing changes.
I think you need to make it possible for users to rename devices to make device names meaningful/intelligible.

That used to be possible but the option was removed long ago.
Also, Dropbox isn't adding .lan to the name. That would be your local network name, so it's either being added by macOS or your router.

Thanks for your reply, Rich. It's all newly strange to me — looking closely at these things for the first time in a long time after adding Dropbox to a new device.
