can i see if someone else had access to my dropbox account?

hi everyone,

i wonder if there is a way for me to find out if someone else has accessed my (free) dropbox account?

under personal account and security i see nothing unexpected. maybe a day and a half ago someone else may have accessed my account. i see nothing strange but maybe files were copied or looked up if someone was in?

i sincerely hope u can help me out ....

thanks a lot in advance,

Frank

Hi frank20, thanks for joining the Community!

I understand the concern over the security of your Dropbox account.

If a user logs into their Dropbox account on the website, then it would be logged on the security page, which you said you've already checked. If they view your account, or namely the the files on the account, via the Dropbox desktop application or mobile app, then you can see the most recent activity from that page as well.

Aside from that, there isn't a way to see if your files were copied or viewed on your account.

If you need any more details, feel free to message back!

    Hi Jay,

thanks a lot for your insights!

just to make sure, i hope you don't mind...

if someone else has logged into my account say 3 days ago:

would i be able to see that at this moment in the 'personal account' 'security' tab?

(either via the website or via the app, the two sections in the overview)?

the history that i see is only 'today'.

(regardless of what the person did to files)

    thanks again, really helpful!

    kind regards, Frank

It would show any existing sessions on your account. If the site was accessed recently, then it should appear on that page.

Do you have your browser set to automatically login to your account, or do you sign out of the Dropbox site and need to login each time?

    Hi Jay,

thanks again, really helps me a lot.

i usually use the dropbox app  on my mac and do dropbox handling via the finder. i nowadays use the browser quite some times because of the issues at hand but that is unusual. i think it signs on automatically when i open the site because the dropbox app logs on on startup.

    greetings, Frank

If the browser logs in automatically, I'd recommend signing out of the site each time you finish using it.

Also, if someone has access to your machine, then they'd able to view files, and login to the site directly via the desktop app.
