Does Dropbox scan file requests for malware? I also can't create file requests via the desktop app.

Question or Issue
Our company has about 200 team members on Dropbox for business, and uses Dropbox File Request function and Shared links a lot for receiving/sharing files etc. from external vendors and associates. A question has come up recently in regards to maintaining our company's SOC2 certification and regards to data protection, does Dropbox has any sort of virus scanning capabilities/malware/phishing/ransomeware scanning/protection for files being uploaded through file requests or throughout its storage systems. Would like to know if there is already any known existing functions on Dropbox, or is there any future plans to this being developed.

Microsoft Sharepoint has virus screening/malware etc capabilities so we are also contemplating replacing Dropbox file requests with uploads to sharepoint instead, and are wondering if there is a direct api to link Sharepoint to Dropbox, where files uploaded to a Sharepoint folder can be uploaded to Dropbox automatically.

Something else on the side, in Dropbox desktop app, we used to be able to right click a specific folder and create a file request through the options listed, and it would pop up into the browser to create that file request link and the exact folder path would be prepopulated. Currently, I have to right click and view Dropbox on browser, and click create file request on the browser, and sometimes the folder path is not prepopulated, and I have to slowly search and browse through to get to the exact folder path (which is very tedious).

Hi JoshNg! I wanted to give you a nudge here and see if you need any further assistance when it comes to creating new file requests via your desktop app.

    Let me know.

Thanks for posting on our Community, JoshNg! Welcome aboard.

Since you’re part of a Dropbox team, you can use this feature for ransomware detection (and, in case someone has already been affected, you can undo these updates with Dropbox Rewind). Of course, we also recommend using a security software on your devices, to make sure you’re always protected against third-party attacks.

As for connecting Dropbox with Microsoft Sharepoint, I’m afraid there’s no supported way to integrate those two on our behalf. However, if you wish to do so in the future, you can definitely search online, as there may be a way to achieve this either via Microsoft, or via a third-party app.

Finally, can you clarify when you stopped seeing the option to create a file request via the Dropbox desktop app? Is this something you noticed after a specific OS, or Dropbox update?

Does the entire team see the same thing, or are you the only one having this issue?

Let me know, and we’ll go from there.
