Solved

I joined a Business team, and now I can't access my own Dropbox account.

Can anyone help me?  I have had an existing dropbox account for years.  I freelance for an external company who invited me to join their dropbox business account and somehow i have integrated my business dropbox account onto theirs.  Obviously not a great situation to be in and I don't know how to undo it - it doesn't appear has 'linked' in my profile.  I really need to speak to someone at dropbox but i sent them a help request and they closed it without answering.  I'm very anxious that they can simply delete my whole business dropbox.

Can anyone help me or give me a contact at dropbox who can?

  • Hi Sashahelp, let's jump right into this!

Based on all the info you've shared with me, it sounds like you joined a Business team with your existing Dropbox account, and now you'd like to change that.

In order for that to happen, and for your account to revert back to an individual one, you'd need to ask the Team admin, to remove you from the team and convert your account into an individual one

Once that's done, you can ask them to invite you to said team, using a different email of yours.

If you have any questions, let me know!

    Hi Megan

If I ask my admin to remove me from my Team and convert my account into a Dropbox Basic instead. What will happen to all my files that I no longer have storage for? Will I keep them as long as I upgrade my account?

    Hi babakvakili, exactly!

Nothing will happen to your files, you just won't be able to add new edits, or content to the account.

This exact thing happened to me. Were you able to uncouple the accounts successfully?

Hey ginnyw - sorry to hear about this.

Have you tried following Megan's suggestion to contact your team's admin and ask them to convert your account back to an individual one?
