Dropbox notified me that my photos may get deleted, even though I've storage space left.

Good morning everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well. I’m not exactly sure how to describe my situation, so I appreciate your patience and understanding.

I started using Dropbox a while back because my Apple storage was running low, and I couldn’t afford Apple One anymore t. My wife passed away in March, and since then, life hasn’t been the same. I’ve uploaded all of our photos and memories to Dropbox — they’re incredibly special to me. Looking through them every day brings both pain and peace, as it helps me feel close to her.

Recently, I’ve been getting notifications warning that my photos might be deleted, even though my account settings show I still have available space. I’m really worried about losing these memories — they mean more to me than anything. Along with our dog Bailey, who she got just a month before she passed, these photos and videos are what I have left of her.

I’m not sharing this for sympathy, but to express how important this is and to hopefully get some help understanding what’s going on or how to fix it.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this and for being part of a community that helps others. Wishing everyone a good day.

    Hi JF84

Thank you so much for reaching out and for sharing your story with us. I can only imagine how meaningful these photos are to you, and I truly understand your concern about keeping them safe. Let’s figure out what’s going on here to make sure your memories of your wife and Bailey stay protected.

So it sounds like you’re seeing notifications about your files being deleted, even though your Dropbox account shows available space - so to help us identify what’s happening, could you please confirm:

    1. Whether these warnings appear in the Dropbox app, on the website, or through email
    2. If you’re using Dropbox on multiple devices (such as your computer and phone)

This will just help us to figure out why you might be seeing notifications and where they’re coming from, and how to stop them. Sometimes, these alerts are caused by sync or backup settings, not actual deletion risks. Once we have that detail, I can guide you through checking your backup and storage settings to make sure your photos are safely stored.

Thanks for sharing any additional info, it helps our team investigate without too many questions from us - the sooner we get this sorted for you, the better - so we’ll be here.
