Add .dropboxignore directory to exclude folders without using selective sync
Please please please can you add a feature that allows folders to be excluded from the Dropbox account (on windows and mac). For sure I'm not the first person to request this, but I'm yet to find a good explanation of why it's not there. A quick google search reveals loads of people also looking for the same feature. I really like the workflow I have with dropbox, but it's getting to the point where I might switch providers in order to allow better selective sync.
I've seen hackish solutions using selective sync, but it would be great if this could be done in one of the following ways:
- global pattern matching eg "node_modules"
- a marker file in the directory like .dropboxignore
- a simple right click context menu "Ignore this folder"
Other than that, keep up the good work. Cheers.
Tom

In the past I used the DropboxFilter project to do exactly that. I updated it so that it works again with the current version of Dropbox.
You can find everything you need here:

Just purchased PRO today and really need this feature.
Excluding by file type is part of almost EVERY backup software. Hard to imagine this feature is not there when much more advanced things like following symbolic links is there!!!
Hope to see it sooner vs. later.

This is the most voted topic in this section of the community. They really need to step up and comment on it.

In a world where costumer relationship is king, it's very surprising that Dropbox is simply ignoring this post, specially on its own product feedback forum.

Have they even acknowledged this?

Lol this issue is going on since forever. Just this thread is almost two years old. Are we seriously expecting anything to be done about it?? It's so unfortunate that such a simple (at least to our eyes) demand is treated with this absurd lack of interest.
