2 years agoHi PRQ! To recretate the Dropbox shortcut in your taskbar, please click on the small Dropbox icon in your system tray, go to your initials/profile picture > Preferences > Account tab. When you're at the Account tab, press alt + h on your keyboard, and click the "Create desktop shortcut" button.
Do you see the shortcut again after that?

I don't see those things in that area. BTW, I neglected to mention that I have two accounts (business and personal). I can't imagine that would make any difference, but thought I'd mention it. AND, the dropbox icon didn't disappear from my taskbar, it just stopped working. See attached picture.

The user (PROQ) asked how to create a shortcut on his Taskbar - NOT on his Desktop.
How do you create a Dropbox shortcut on the Taskbar - like the one that used to work for a decade...

PRQ, what if you delete the existing Dropbox shortcut and try to recreate it with the steps I sent you above? Does that seem to help?
I checked your previous screenshot, but it doesn’t look like you were on the Account tab at the time. If you click on the Dropbox icon in your system tray again, do you see a small icon with your initials/profile picture, and then the option to go to your Preferences?

No, I do not see a small icon with my initials/profile picture, and then the option to go to my Preferences? That's why I sent the screen shot - so you could see what I see. So I have no way to do what you suggest (delete/recreate shortcut).

Alright, let’s try something else. I’d like you to open your File Explorer instead and press Shift + right click on your Dropbox folder. After that, please click "Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)", and then remove the " - Shortcut" at the end.
Does that seem to help more?

Yes, that worked, except it won't allow me to more the shortcut to my taskbar for easy access ( I normally have desktop icons hidden).

So of course it worked this time (drag & drop)!! I tried several times earlier and it said "add to windows explorer?" When I right-clicked on it the option to add it to taskbar wasn't there either. SOOOO...it seems to be working - fingers crossed!!

What is a system tray?

Hey MustangSally . The system tray is located at the bottom right part of your screen, where your clock settings should be showing. There should be a small Dropbox icon there.

Nancy, I get it. Wow did I learn something from you! Thanks for telling me where the taskbar is. I thought it was the bottom bar.
. Now I can use Dropbox! Kudos to Nancy!
