Automatic scan option for tablets

Automatic scan option for tablets

Dawn

Hi.

Can you please add the automatic scan option for tablets?

I purchased an Android Orbic tablet for scanning a large number of documents when I travel for work.  I use this feature on my Android phone and it works great but drains my battery and I cannot always wait for a recharge to finish, as I usually have to do long distance day travel.  With the tablet, the scan option is there, but it will not automatically scan when pointed at a document, instead I have to click a capture button like you would when using the camera feature? The documents I gather are historical and descriptive and sometimes difficult to read when captured like a photo.  Also, the locations do not always allow me easy access, so taking the photo is not easily seen at that time to hit the capture button. That is why the auto scan feature works amazingly for this.

I did purchase this tablet for the purpose of this data collection and was unaware that that feature was not available on tablets.

If this feature could be added, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and the amazing product that you offer.

Dawn

Hi @dawnngillespie1, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

What version of Android and the Dropbox mobile app are you running on your device?

This will help me to assist further!

Hi Walter.
I am sorry, I did. Was busy when it popped up and forgot to get back to it.

It is a version 11 Orbic tablet and I use Dropbox Plus.

Thank you for reaching out again!

Hi @Dawn, thanks for clarifying!

When you try to scan a file, do you see an "auto" option on the top, right part of the auto capture?

Hi Megan.
Thank you for reaching out.

I did see that and tried it, but it did not work either.
I did look to see if there were any settings I needed to adjust for it to do it, and nothing changed. Also, I did call and speak with the help center and that is when I learned that it was not an option for tablets. I am just hoping that it will be an option for the future.

Thank you again!
Dawn

Could you try clearing the app's cache and let us know how it goes @Dawn

If that doesn't improve matters, you could also try reinstalling the app.

As for your support interaction, could you share your ticket ID so that we can look it up in our system?

I did try both of your recommendations and it did not change anything.

I do not have a ticket ID. It was a chat and I do have an email of the chat transcript. Here are the responses that I received.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

"Upon checking, as of the moment we don't have support for tablet devices. We only have for cellphones. To scan documents please follow these steps: 1. Open the Dropbox app on your mobile device. 2. Tap the + (plus) icon. 3. Tap Scan Document. 4. Either take a picture of the content you’d like to scan, or select an existing image on your mobile device. 5. If desired, make edits or scan additional pages. 6. Tap Next. 7. If desired, make adjustments to the save settings. 8. Tap Save."

"As of the moment we don't have any updates yet on when it will be available for table devices. No worries I will surely forward this to our developer team so that they can somehow find ways on how to implement this feature. You can also share your wonderful ideas with them using this link https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Share-an-idea/ct-p/101002000"

Hey @Dawn, sorry to jump in here as well.

Would you mind sending us a screenshot of what you see on your screen, when you tap the "scan" option in your Dropbox app?
