Can't go online automatically

Can't go online automatically

Hello everyone !

I have trouble making dropbox work online. I have a root folder where I copy every day a new folder inside with files. I set my prefs to be online by default so every time I manually drag & drop the folder from my computer to dropbox it goes to the cloud without being copied on my computer. But every time I drag&drop a folder, it gets copied and switch to the green and white icon (available) and not grey (on line).

I set my prefs on my account (synchronization > new files online) and on the admin account.

Once the copy is done, I have to right click the folder and hit 'online' (sorry don't know exactly since I am in French mode) and only then it is online.

Is there a way to automatically send the files online ?

I attached picture with the green icon (I just copied the folder) then the right click, then when I hit going online the grey icon.

Thank you
best

Diane

Not a problem, Diane!

If you're on the new Dropbox for macOS version of the app and the app sees that you're low on disk space, it will switch your files to online-only automatically, otherwise, you'll need to make them online-only manually.

Hey @dddpol, thanks for joining us on the Dropbox Community!

When you add a file from your computer to your Dropbox folder, it will need to initially take up space in order to sync properly, even if you've set your new files to sync by default as online-only.

The setting refers to files you add to your account using the website or other devices; basically files that need to "sync down" to your computer.

If they need to "sync up" to be uploaded, they need space to sync first.

Once syncing is finished, though, you can go ahead and right-click the files to make them online-only.

I hope this clarifies things, but let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your answer !

I am ok for files to take space on my computer but I thought that when the upload was finished it would automatically switch to online mode without having to click myself. Is this possible ?

Thanks again

Diane
