Green checkmarks are sometimes missing from my Dropbox files

Green checkmarks are sometimes missing from my Dropbox files

Hello.

Sometime I see green check marks by the files and folders within my Dropbox folder, and sometimes I do not. I have seen suggestions that green checks are now phased out, and also that the user may be looking in the wrong folder. Neither of those solutions can apply to me as checks are sometimes there and sometimes not, and I only have the one folder to look in. I have tried restarting. When the checks are not there, when I right click the drop-down options are the same for any folder and there is no option to generate a link to share with others, which is a nuisance. Any thoughts? - Thanks

Hi again

I have just visited my startup settings and indeed Dropbox is set to 'off' I have changed that to 'on' and I suspect that will resolve the issue (from what you have said).

I had been confused by this post:

https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/no-green-check-mark-on-the-dropbox-system-tray-icon/

where it is said that Dropbox has done away with the green check marks, but that is obviously as accurate as a Russian foreign minister!

I will mark the issue as resolved when I have tested it with a few shutdowns and restarts.

Thanks for the help

Welcome aboard the Community, @Skiday!

Can you specify what’s the exact OS version of your device?

Also, is there any chance that when the syncing icons disappear from your Dropbox folder, the desktop app isn’t running either on your computer?

Let me know, and we’ll further check this.

Hi Nancy

I'm running Windows 10. After I posted the green checks reappeared. I thought that Dropbox was always on in the background, but are you saying that after starting up I have to click on the app to get it running before the syncing will occur? Normally I only put my laptop to 'sleep' and very rarely turn it off altogether. Perhaps I need to add Dropbox to the list of 'startup' programs? I did click on the app in the start menu after I posted and nothing opened as such but, as I say, the green checks appeared again.

If the green checks disappear again, would that then mean that anyone with a link to them will still be able to view them?
