Delete, edit, and organize
Solve issues with deleting, editing, and organizing files and folders in your Dropbox account with support from the Dropbox Community.
I have/had a file directory named "My DESKTOP-M8H8QFP". This is the name of my computer/ device in setting. Whenever I tried to make a change to any of the subdirectories (downloads, Documents, Desktop) in "My DESKTOP-M8H8QFP", it also makes the change to files in "This PC" directory in File Explorer. If I try to delete Desktop from "My DESKTOP-M8H8QFP", in Dropbox, it will also delete if from the files in "This PC" directory in File Explorer. The two directories seem to be linked.
So now I went to Dropbox Back-up, Managed Back-ups and there was the directory "My DESKTOP-M8H8QFP", I tried to unlink it but it said it was unlinked. Not sure what I hit next but I think I could have deleted the directory but can't remember what exactly what button I hit but I think it was a fatal delete.
The directory is no longer there, get a message that the directory does not exist.
Did I permanently delete the file?
Hey @CarlinRI, let's jump right into this!
First things first: do you get any errors when you try to restore this file online? Also, have you checked in your device's recycled bin, to see if it's there?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Nothing in the recycle bin
Hi @CarlinRI, do you see any deleted backups on the site on the backups page?

No, Nothing in Backups
Sorry to jump in here, but do you maybe see any signs of those files in your events page @CarlinRI?
Also, did you check the deleted files tab from your backups page?

I do not see any files in events.
OK, I do see some files in my events folder. Some are restorable but it looks to be limited to 30 days as the ones in April do not offer the restore option. I am done with trying to retrieve my files. I think it was a fatal delete.
Thanks for the assistance everyone but I need a tutorial I guess on Dropbox as it has grow quite a bit since I started using it many years ago.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop on this @CarlinRI
When it comes to the tutorial you mentioned, you might want to start from here.
See you around the Community and take care!
