I got an email about deleted files, but I didn't delete them

I received an email from drop box:  "You recently deleted 1033 files from your Dropbox account. If you want these files back, you can still restore them"

I didn't delete these files, is this automatically processed by "Dropbox? Are these .png files important? Should I restore them and if I do, where can I find them to view and access whether I do want to delete them.

Hi @Mary Ann1, thanks for messaging the Community!

You can see these deleted files on the deleted files page.

Did you recently move these images, or make any other changes to them?

This will help me to assist further!

No I'm not aware that I moved or deleted these files. I use "snipping tools" quite often, but do not save them to drop box, but do save them to paste to excel for viewing. One of the deleted files looks like this: "Screenshot 2023-03-16 133511.png".

Do you see any recent events related to these files?

Are they in a shared folder or a private folder?

No I do not see any recent events. I tested a snipping tool event. I copied not saved is my normal routine. I searched for a screen shot in drop box no file was found. Yes some of my folders are shared. He has not been deleting/cleaning up folder's recently. All the files saved had a name beginning with date 2023-03-16 and ending 2024-03-18. Looks like a years worth of files, a annual dump?

Could you clarify exactly what you mean by using a snipping tool event, step-by-step, for me to understand what is happening?

I use Microsoft Snipping Tools. When I right click my mouse on the icon on my task bar, I see all the recent screen shots saved in the last few days, using the same file names that were deleted. So I went into setting and I see "Snipping Tools" is set to automatically save screen shots. I did not see a option to annually purge files saved or where it is being saved. But, I'm convinced these are worthless files and okay they were purged. I did undo the Auto save in settings, so I should not have a massive delete in the future. No confirmation, but I think "Snipping Tools" deleted the files.  Thank you for working with me to resolve my concerns.
