Randomly deleting huge numbers of files. It happens at least twice a year.

Randomly deleting huge numbers of files. It happens at least twice a year.

I think this has been touched on before.

I have a few computers all linked to the same Dropbox.

Every now and then I'll get a message saying I have deleted a large number of files and did I want to do that.

The thing is I did nothing. For some reason Dropbox just goes and deletes loads of files randomly.

Has anyone managed to solve this?

Cheers

Hi @PHIL B.7, thanks for messaging the Community!

Generally, Dropbox doesn't delete files without any user or app interaction on those files.

If you restore the files from the deleted files page, and view the version history on one of the recovered files, you should be able to see which computer and user deleted the files.

This thread I posted should give you an idea of where the file was deleted from, and what could have caused it.

Keep me updated with any progress!

Thanks Jay.

The thing is I don't do anything. They just randomly get deleted from time to time.

It really upsets the workflow for projects and slows everything down while it all syncs again.

I wish I knew why it happens.

Are the files being deleted from a specific set of folders, or generally throughout your account?

Do you have any security software which could you quarantining files, or other apps which could be affecting files in the Dropbox folder?

Generally throughout my account although it is usually from folders that have been more active before deletion happens.

No, I don't have any software which is quarantining files.

Cheers

Hey @PHIL B.7, could you have a look at the version history of some of the files, to find some additional information about where they were deleted from?
