Issues with photos on my account

skylark
Explorer | Level 3

Each file in my Dropbox folder is saying it is 5.83GB in size.  This is enormous and these are only pictures. Some of them say size on disk 14kb.  How do I revert back to original file size as my hard drive has run out of space as you can imagine. I cannot even cut and paste one of these picture files over to a memory stick as it is so big.  Also I am unable to open any of these files as I do not have enough space on my laptop to access the file as it is too big.

Hey @skylark

Sorry to hear about this issue.

Just to clarify, is your account above your storage capacity?

Please keep in mind that your Dropbox storage quota is calculated by adding up the total amount of data in your Dropbox folder, including all shared folders and files collected from file requests. You can check that on your Account tab online. Please see this resource: https://www.dropbox.com/help/space/shared-folder-count-against-storage.

Hope this is helpful to you! If have you further questions, please let me know.

Thanks,

JaneA

Hi Jane I am way above my storage capacity. I thought Dropbox would stop syncing once it reached my limit of 2GB..I am totally at the end of my tether as I cannot do anything to transfer these files over to another cloud, as my laptop is saying I do not have enough hard drive space...so I am going round in circles.  Dropbox has got all my pictures up there and I can't access them as every single file is 5.83GB exactly in size. I have over 1000 photo's, dropbox is saying I havae 9TB worth photo's but that is because it has saved each file to this enormous size. Is there no way of reverting back to the original size.  I see all the dropbox files on my laptop, but I can't open them because of there size.....

Dropbox cannot alter file sizes like that Skylark.... that sounds something like a virus? One where a file is made inexplicitly large to cause damage to the hard drive.

I'd be tempted to log a ticket with Dropbox and ask for support.

I'm tempted to say that you should be able to delete the HUGE new files and then restore a previous version of them (which is smaller), however, I think it may be worth asking support if they can do that en-masse for you.

You can log a ticket at http://bit.ly/cm-support and then track at http://dropbox.zendesk.com

Please note, however, that replies will take at least a few working days.
